I think anyone with a heart had sympathy, but it's another thing working with someone like that. We have definitely been in situations similar, not with a celebrity but with someone we loved but was unreliable.

Billy Wilder said something interesting about Marilyn Monroe: "I know she has problems, but she doesn't understand that the rest of us have problems as well."

I hate when people decide to "tell the truth" about someone who is dead. Tony don't worry she won't show up to the set late anymore but I'm glad you took the time to trash her instead of simply saying she was a beautiful woman.

I think Monroe was quite talented, noticeable especially in her early career. She was mishandled by the studio and the men around her. I fully believe she would have won an Oscar had she not died young. She was certainly no dummy.

Man, seeing Tony Randall brings up so many good memories of watching The Odd Couple as a kid. Great show.

I was at TCM's very first film festival, at which Tony Curtis introduced Some Like It Hot. Sadly, he was in a wheelchair and, aside from the eyebrows and the voice, bore little resemblance to the movie star he had been (completely bald, for one thing, and very overweight). He said that he, Lemmon and Wilder hated Monroe with great intensity; working with her was a nightmare every day. But Wilder observed that once the camera was rolling, she was magic. And they all agreed this was the case, so they put up with her. They recognized how damaged she was on a human level. But as a coworker, they despised her.

absolutely don't agree with him about the lack of talent thing (with the right role) but everything else he said about her seems spot-on.

He was a classically trained stage actor before film and tv. Marilyn wouldn’t have lasted one week in a play.

Disagree with the talent, those that thought she was Marilyn might see that but she wasn’t Marilyn, that was a character she created, once you see that you see she was very talented, of course some would say that’s split personality but she could turn it on or off at will

George Jacobs was Frank Sinatra's House Boy cook, butler, etc. Sinatra got Monroe an apartment in LA and one for Jacobs next door to keep tabs on her and he said she was a very unclean woman physically (I won't go into it, the book is well worth reading). Title: Mr. S and Me

MM was downright exuberant in The Seven Year Itch, and I enjoyed her many roles (How to Marry a Millionaire, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes & Bus Stop), and I don't fault Randall’s honesty. MM was renowned for her tardiness and sometimes didn't show up at all.

Her acting was fine.She fit the perfect naive, alouf, beautiful girl role they wanted. Tony is being an ass thinking she’d have the same acting chops. Not like he played a lot of variety in his roles. He’s an acting steriotype just like she was.

Tony Randall was an actor who exuded class and talent (and a peculiar yet piercing variety of humor, when he wished) to the extent of which has rarely been matched. I honestly only watched this clip to hear his view of a co-star, it needn't have been Marilyn to be interesting.

It must be frustrating to work with someone who is always late, but Marilyn struggled badly with numerous issues. She was deeply damaged and a decent person needs to give compassion for that, or just don't work with her. As for talent, she WAS talented and intelligent.

I think she was a fine actress but yeah she was notorious for making everyone wait for her.
