This is probably a hot take, but a redemption arc for Sephiroth isn't narratively imperative. But psychologically and thematically, the desire for his redemption is entirely justified by the lore. In a structural stand point, Sephiroth's role in the OG, AC, and much of the —

Remake and Rebirth storyline is to serve as the ultimate, insurmountable manifestation of trauma and planetary threat. He crossed the moral event horizon at Nibelheim. The sheer scale of his destruction makes a traditional "redemption arc" incredibly difficult to pull off —

without it feeling unearned or diminishing the suffering of characters like Cloud and Tifa. He is iconic precisely because of his unapologetic, terrifying descent into madness. On the other hand, the expanded compilation, especially titles like Ever Crisis paints a picture—

of a profound tragedy that makes the craving for his redemption incredibly natural. Before Nibelheim, Sephiroth wasn't inherently evil. He was a manipulated child soldier bred as a corporate weapon. He had friends (Genesis, Angeal, Glenn, Matt, Lucia, and even Zack), he showed—

genuine care for his subordinates, and he possessed a quiet humanity. His fall wasn't born of greed, arrogance, superiority complex or Jenova madness, but of an intense, manufactured existential crisis upon realizing his entire life was a biological lie. —

However, here's what I really believe what's going to happen to him. His defeat for part 3 will be even harder than the OG but he will still receive a positive ending. W/ everything happening in the remakes, something is definitely bound to deviate. Sephiroth in the remakes, who—

is the same boy we knew from EC, still held on to that quiet humanity he has. He showed more of his human side ever before despite how he became. Then again, I could be wrong since devs also considered him a "protagonist."

IMO he doesn't need or deserve a redemption story, but giving him the peace of death that he couldn't accept before is enough of a way to conclude his character.

NGL, there is a part of me that I would like to see some kind of happy-ish end for him just because of the sheer amount of shit he had to deal with in his life But there is also the part of me who is like "naaah, he doesn't really deserve it with what he did" hgkuyfgh 😂

I mean devs stated before that they're going to give the characters a happy ending, and that includes Sephiroth. As I've mentioned before, with all that's happening in the remakes and EC, I don't think he'll have the same ending as the OG anymore. Something is bound to deviate.

Oh yeah, I'm absolutely down for Sephy to have as much as a happy ending as it is possible without it feeling forced or something like that My chaotic brain is just conflicting as it often does lmao

I hope that if a "redemption arc" is given to him, it's in the form of him realizing the lie he believed since the shinra manor basement and that lucrecia was his real mother which would destroy his god complex worldview.

Sephiroth doesn't want to redeem himself. What are you smoking lmao.

If Sephiroth were ever to be redeemed, I think he would still have to die in the end. He needs to be punished for all the bad things he did, but it would be nice for him to finally learn that his real mother was actually Lucrecia and not Jenova. His tragic downfall is built on a lie, so it should end with the truth.

I think we’d need to see flashbacks from outside of OG to really be able to sell it and I’m not sure where you’d slip that in

To be honest, the character building of Sephiroth in the story is very weak. Making me feel that he is so lame.

I think its a neat concept that one of the other timeline versions of Sephiroth is trying to break the control of Jenova over him and thats why have the remake scenario. So the last boss would be Jenova either with Sephiroth or set up by him. Either way he should not survive
