This is probably going to upset the moms who pierce their baby's ears... 👀

As a parent, to intentionally inflict pain on your own child for cosmetic purposes with no medical benefit and without her understanding what's going on seems a little sadistic to me.

Just an opinion: What happened to taking your daughter to Clair's on her 13th birthday or the mall kiosk or whatever? Don't make your infant innocent babies experience pain on purpose. Gross.

As someone who’s been in the jewelry business, I don’t recommend it - you grow up and the holes can be unbalanced - a lot of times they need to get re-pierced so that earrings look right. Plus, if they pull or tear them, it’s super painful and hard to fix. One of my best memories with my mom was her letting me get my ears pierced when I was 11!!

They’re over it pretty quickly. It’s not that deep.

Just don’t think it’s that big of a deal. You asked people’s opinions in your video. 🤷♀️

I figured folks would have opinions about points I actually made, not about points I never expressed.

Mm, k…

I would agree putting it online wasn’t right. I had my 4 daughter’s pierced at about the same age. I actually went when they were about to eat and they just started sucking on their bottle after and forgot all about it. Everyone can have their opinions.

You do realize they are Hispanic. It is their culture. Stay out of it

No. It was posted publicly, inviting comment, and so I commented. Stay out of my comments about it. 🤷♀️. This is my culture.

The video was SOOOO hard to watch. Very uncomfortable

is this really an issue you feel needs air time ??

Is this really a comment you felt you needed to take time to make?

time is not the issue

I am totally with you. The right of passage around 16 years old is always a special little event if they choose. I had my granddaughter‘s ears pierced when she asked at 12 years old, she changed her mind and stopped wearing earrings. Yet, at 16, she’s totally rocking it again!

Compare to circumcision?

Not sure what your question is.

Seems a bit similar to me.

I literally talk about this in the video, so still not understanding what you're asking.

I think it's fine to pierce your child's ears, but it's weird to put it on the internet. But I think it's weird to put a lot of things on the internet that people do.

I wanted to pierce our daughter's ears as an infant because I didn't want her to have to go through the physical pain of having it done later. Thank God my amazing husband said "absolutely not." It was really important to him for her to choose to do it when she's older. She's now a preteen and has zero desire to get her ears pierced. I'm so relieved now that I didn't take that choice away from her.

I have a craft jewelry business. I would never advocate having a baby’s ears pierced. Earring injuries can happen so easily. Earring gets caught on something and rips your earlobe. Of course, you do you, but I take off all my jewelry when I sleep, shower or go in water

Well, my dad wouldn't let us get our ears pierced until we left for college. He didn't have a lot of restrictions, but that was one. By then, when everyone was getting tats and piercings, I decided that by not getting my ears pierced and not getting tats, I would make the bigger statement on individuality. Plus, frankly, I lost interest, preferred to save the money, just never got around to it. I don't feel like I missed out. One less thing to deal with, earrings and tats. I'm sure people would get upset with my dad, but I'm glad. In my parents home, it was their rules. On my own, I could make choices. In college, I was more of an adult, I was making my own decisions, and it was about what I wanted to do, not what all the people around me were doing. I chose not to, and with reasons I chose. So I'm thankful. I hate to see little kids with earrings for a lot of reasons, including safety.

I chose to not pierce my baby girl’s ears when she was little and instead wanted this to be left up to her when was older. People didn’t understand why not just do it early on. I’m so glad I held my position. When she was a teen we both went in for piercings together and it was way more memorable and fun 😁❤️

I've ALWAYS hated it! When they sleep with their head to the side, or you cuddle them, they have deep, red indents from the backs of the earrings. It's so sad.

baby boys have their foreskin sliced off without anesthesia, and all babies get shots for immunization.....get over the earrings....

Her earlobes will be pretty sore for a while. They will be uncomfortable to sleep on. They will need to be taken care of to prevent infection. So it isn’t just the piercing that hurts. It seems pretty unnecessary. If it’s posted on line we can offer our opinions I guess.

I'll actually say whatever I want about content that is posted publicly.

Yes - you seem to be participating in that trend. 🙄 How about just acknowledging the points I actually made instead of making demands of me?

It’s all “ my body my choice” till they want to mutilate their own daughter…I was 16, my daughter 14. No. Just no. Maybe get em a tattoo while you’re at it?

For me it's not the actual piercing as much as doing it like that. I grew up in the era of that being the norm piercing with those "guns" but now a needle at a real piercer is the only way I will get anything pierced it's way less painful on top of everything else. Also I do agree with letting the girl choose instead of doing it this young though.

I had to wait until I was 16 to get my ears pierced. My mother made it something to look forward to and it was my own choice.

If I was the father I would have removed them, and then divorced her stating that she preformed an unnecessarily barbaric procedure on an infant.

I have a friend from Argentina who said that when she moved to the US with her two young girls, she was shocked to find many baby girls here had unshaven heads and no ear piercings. She told me before she even left the hospital, her daughters' heads were shaved and ears pierced.

It has a VERY strong cultural component among Hispanic families.

My mother-in-law took my first daughter out of my arms at 3 months old saying she was going to buy her an outfit and came back with her ears pierced. I was soooo pissed off. With my second daughter, I waited until she was old enough to know whether she wanted them done or not. She ended up having an allergy and we took them out. She had them re-done herself as a younger teen.

Totally agree with you! The baby couldn’t care less about getting her ears pierced at this age. They don’t understand and it’s just causing unnecessary pain!

In a lot of cultures, baby girls get their ears pierced, which is fine, but yes, putting in online is child exploitation.

I agree. Girls should be old enough to choose if they want earrings. It shouldn’t matter that it only hurts for a short time etc, it’s purely cosmetic and that shouldn’t be done as a baby or even toddler

By the way, your hair looks amazing today.

I took my baby girl Clair’s for earrings in 2000 & it was traumatic. However My 4 granddaughters go the piercing/tattoo studio. They are really good with piercing. No tears at all & very clean with nice earrings

We waited until my daughter could both decide for herself that she wanted holes in her body and was able to care for them herself. It's unethical to me to do this to a baby!

I agree. I think they should have waited until she was older and wanted her ears pierced.

I agree and was disappointed and kinda shocked as I like what I know about the family. What the eff were they thinking putting it out there? How did they think it would be received? Seriously? That video should have been private or not at all. Just flirting with disaster.

Now that I know better, I wouldn't have let my daughter have hers done at 5. Early exposure to nickel caused a massive reaction 6 1/2 years later. She is now severly allergic to stainless steel.
