It’s so cool this was practical. This would be the easiest thing to do in CGI but this is so much more charming

this is how you make movies. I think i’m gonna cry. so much care and thought was put into barbie to the finest details. greta gerwig and her team deserve the world

Is practical starting to become cheaper than CGI? I can’t think of any other reason why they felt they had to do it this way 🤔

I think it’s mainly cuz the campiness and colorful nature of the brand Barbie, it lends itself for a lot of practical stuff like paintings in the background, stuff like that wouldn’t look too good for every project.

I like that they chose to go with practical effects rather than CGI for most scenes. All these movies are so CGI heavy these days, this is like a breath of fresh air

People in the replies have really never considered movies can be made practically

Yay! It's not CGI... This is so novel and rare to see in Hollywood... It's also very cool to see something like this function.

Love this! CGI is making everything so boring! This gives something for actors to better react to, and the lighting is A+. With CGI, it seems everything is 10 shades darker and you have actors playing against tennis balls. Boring!

So cool to see behind the magic. ✨ The Mandalorian did similar in order to use real props rather than CGI. Much more satisfying for the viewer imo.
