This is Ronnie James Dio before Rainbow, before Sabbath, before any of it. Eight years after this footage, he was singing “Man on the Silver Mountain.”

'Man On The Silver Mountain' will be out next week! Pre-save it now: "Man on the Silver Mountain" has one of my favorite Ritchie Blackmore "plucked" guitar riffs. And of course, Ronnie James Dio's vocal shine throughout. #paulgilbert #Thedioalbum

The music in "Rainbow in the Dark" started as a Sweet Savage song Vivian Campbell wrote in Belfast at 16. A few years later he was playing it next to Ronnie James Dio, live in 1983. Born on this day in 1942. Dio forever.

Today in Rock History May 16, 2010 Ronnie James Dio, singer for Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and his own band Dio, passed away at 67 after a six-month battle with stomach cancer. His career began in 1957 with The Vegas Kings, evolving through several name changes before becoming Elf in 1967. Opening for Deep Purple led to Dio’s collaboration with Ritchie Blackmore in Rainbow, launching him to rock legend status. Dio’s final public appearance was at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards on April 8, 2010, where he received the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award. His influence on heavy metal and power metal remains immense, with “Dio” still symbolizing one of the genre’s most iconic voices.

In 1992, Ronnie James Dio quit Black Sabbath rather than open for Ozzy. “I’m not supporting a clown,” he told Iommi. So Rob Halford stepped in on almost no notice. Here he is singing “N.I.B.” with Sabbath at Costa Mesa. One of the rarest lineups in metal.

Here it is. The found footage of Ian Liddell VC. As far as I know this footage has NEVER been seen publicly before. Filmed on the 7th April 45, 4 days after the action on the bridge, and 2 weeks before he was killed. He was called the officer that never lost his temper, I think you can see that here. Is this really how G-Dragon sings this song? It sounds like he drank about five bottles of whiskey before singing.

Before this man decided to put out this message you have to ask yourself what level of psychic trauma was he experiencing before he crafted this beaut.
