Meiselas: Trump now claims he's brought $22 trillion into the US. This is what Ponzi schemers do to prey on weak and vulnerable people. The Ponzi scheme here is so utterly nefarious and evil. Because what he wants to do is string real, desperate people — people who are suffering, which is most Americans right now, I might add — along the same way a Ponzi schemer does and says, “I’ve brought in this money. You’re just going to have to wait a year or two. You’re going to be so rich. I brought in all this money.” That’s why he keeps on making up these numbers, because he holds out the false hope that there are riches right around the corner. This is what this felon has done his entire life. This is what this bankrupter has done his entire life. This is what this sexual abuser has done his entire life. This is what he did in Atlantic City with his casinos. This is what he’s done with a lot of his projects that have gone bankrupt, bankrupt, bankrupt. He creates false hope. He drags people along. He destroys their lives. He steals their money, picks their pockets — figuratively and sometimes literally, however it’s actually being done, in my opinion. And this is how he’s doing it writ large on the United States. Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme: $64 billion. Trump’s Ponzi scheme with the United States economy: $22 trillion.
