This is something I completely agree with. What truly matters isn’t the party, but the integrity and capability of the candidate. It really is time we move away from this culture of voting for parties and start voting for individuals who genuinely deserve it.

A country’s president shouldn’t speak with two tongues, saying one thing to appease party members and another to win over the youth. The right approach now is to present both statements side by side and have a journalist directly ask the President: has he withdrawn his endorsement of all PNC candidates, or was he simply telling the youth what they wanted to hear?

The system has been rigged in such a way that no matter how educated or how deserving a party backed candidate is, he's still representing the uneducated or corrupt head/policies of the party. Education and integrity of the candidate is useless in such cases.

True… then the same person goes door-to-door in the evening saying “vote PNC,” and at night meets youths claiming, “I believe in voting for the most capable.” Politicians will keep speaking out of both sides of their mouth, telling each group what it wants to hear, until we start holding them accountable for every word they say.

I will also be talking about our merger with the Australian Citizens Party and our plans going forward including other mergers. We do recognise the need to merge with other minor parties so that we can hold the major parties to account and I intend to keep working on that. I will also explain why the commentary around minor parties splitting the vote is wrong. Under our preferential voting system, voters have to number every box. It's extremely important to able to send a message to the major parties without wasting your vote. That's what preferential voting does. By voting for minor parties first you can express your dissatisfaction with the major parties but still vote for the major party of your choice so that Labor doesn't get in. None of the major parties have any solutions to actually fix the underlying structural imbalances of our economy. That's why voting for the Peoples Party first is so important.
