This is such a beautiful conversation- it brought me back to when hip-hop could simply give people their flowers, collaborate, andwithout everything becoming negative or divisive. Just listening to Bun B talk about Drake’s rise, his first encounter with him, and the story involving his wife at the concert... was refreshing. We so need more of this, uplifting the genre and the people who continue to uplift it. For the last two years, I believe most of the love for Drake has come from fans and content creators. So hearing someone from within the culture speak about him with genuine respect just hits different. Sometimes it’s good to remember what hip-hop sounds like when appreciation is louder than negativity🪓🦉show more

I remember when "So Far Gone" dropped & in Atlanta I'd hear MULTIPLE cars driving w/ windows down & groups of females singing loud as hell word for word Little Bit, Houstatlantavegas, Sooner than Later. Females was killing them songs!!! & as a R&b fan. I rocked with it too. Lol.

My opinion, fans can choose teams. I believe Institutions should protect the field. The problem isn't bias, the problem is bias backed by institutional power. For example: : Ebro and Breakfast Club. I think once someone occupies an institutional position within the music ecosystem, major radio, streaming, labels, trade media, etc., their commentary can carry more weight because their platform can also affect exposure, narratives, access, and careers.

If I told you this was a Hip Hop track that came out in 1989 and not 69 youd believe me. From the beat to the rapping and gold chains it would make sense because this everything about the music and style is hip hop. But since Isaac Hayes was rapping in gold chains in Memphis and not the Bronx, it doesn’t count. Bambooty, and Melle Mel would have you believe they started this culture. Instead of telling the truth about how this culture was handed down to them. The ego of these hip hop so called legends is astonishing. They sampled everything and give credit to nobody. That’s sad.

Became friends with my heroes. The future is very exciting but I'm filled with gratitude for the past. Ebro plucked me out of obscurity in DC and put this mic in my hand. No imagine this. I'm a hip hop kid from DC. Summer Jam was like a figment of my hip hop imagination and I just showed up and was handed a mic and told to go interview these giants. And then I stayed for almost 20 years. I made mistakes, said dumb things, had bad takes BUT for the most part I kept it completely true to the backpacker who dreamed of getting to the big leagues and pushing the culture forward. Two days ago I introduced Rakim on stage (for the 3rd or 4th time) ... Flex DJ'd my wedding. Alongside Cipha Sounds I created the hip hop podcast genre. I made lifelong friends like Laura Stylez Kast One Juanyto Shani Kulture and so many others (whole team you know what's up). The run is psychotic. Thank you God. This High School baseball coach sounds like has his hands full. I feel for him. He kicked this senior off the baseball team. Listen to the senior laugh and then try to degrade the coach. When asked why he was kicked off he said the reason was they took him out of the game (for who knows what) and they didn’t speak to him about it. So, he got on his phone in the dugout and was texting with his mom telling her to not bother to come to the game. Everyone knows you aren’t to be on your phone in high school during a game. Just by listening to the student and also the fact the coach had an officer present, I can tell what I already need to know. Sounds like the coach is trying to turn a program around. Do you think the coach made the right decision? Context is everything I know, but listening to him, can’t you kind of gather what the issue is? Who thinks this is exactly what is wrong with our younger generation?

I got their talking point, but I’ve never viewed Drake through that lens. I’ve always seen him as Black, period, not “in between.” Using race as a litmus test for who’s hip-hop enough is a cop-out. Hip-hop has always been about contribution, influence, and impact, not bloodline purity tests. Wanting Kendrick as the “face” is fine as a personal preference, but framing it as an authenticity issue tied to Drake’s identity misses the point for me and narrows the culture instead of protecting it. T.I. calls Ye, Jay-Z, and Wayne the “juggernauts” of hip-hop and says he was humbled they agreed to collaborate on “Swagga Like Us,” as it was less about competition and more about creating a cultural moment in hip-hop. “I didn’t think that there would be so much support from my peers and constituents in the industry, and those are the juggernauts of this thing of ours. “It wasn’t even about trying to outperform anybody or anything like that. I just wanted to live up to the moment. I was elated that everybody showed up and presented their art on my behalf. It felt special.”

This one is for Hip Hop. I felt heavily inspired by the lineage of Hip Hop and how it contributes to who I am today. This is my first self choreographed performance and one of the most important things I wanted to highlight was my connection to black women through Hip Hop. With the help of hair artist Malcom Marquez, we were able to make this symbolic art performance come to life in just a short week. A special s/o to some of my inspirations; the incredible solange knowles @carlota_guerrero and DOOM (rip) A special s/o to my stylist @sam__woolf for nailing this look and translating my take on hip hop through clothing ! This one is for Hip Hop. I felt heavily inspired by the lineage of Hip Hop and how it contributes to who I am today. This is my first self choreographed performance and one of the most important things I wanted to highlight was my connection to black women through Hip Hop. With the help of hair artist Malcom Marquez, we were able to make this symbolic art performance come to life in just a short week. A special s/o to some of my inspirations; the incredible solange knowles @carlota_guerrero and DOOM (rip) A special s/o to my stylist @sam__woolf for nailing this look and translating my take on hip hop through clothing !
