As it stands, both Jon and Tyrrell, among other LIV players, have appealed their fines putting them in “stay” with no current information on when their appeal will be heard. Speaking ahead of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, Rory McIlroy thinks Jon and Tyrrell should just pay those fines and “prove” their commitment to the Ryder Cup: “Yeah, absolutely. Main thing is -- look, this is my opinion. We went really hard on the Americans about being paid to play the Ryder Cup, and we also said that we would pay to play in Ryder Cups. There's two guys that can prove it. Great. I think that's -- yeah.” This is a very interesting comment. What Rory McIlroy is suggesting here is that Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton pay $6 million each out of their own pockets to play in the same type of events that Rory gets enormous appearance fees for “supporting”.
