Carnegie was a bastard while he was building his wealth. Much like Musk and Bezos today and his main competitor for "richest man" at the time, Rockefeller. It was only in his later years that he became the generous philanthropist we remember today.

@PatTheSocialist Carnagie has a mixed legacy, but his library endeavor was admirable. He funded a library here in Vallejo, Ca, torn down and replaced in the 60’s. My understanding is that he lent the money as opposed to gifting it, a notable difference. My family ended up with several shelves.

Everyone absolutely should have access to the best human creations and thoughts of the past - for the good of all and as seeds for the future which is why our great museums and research libraries must be preserved.
