If my father, who was a welder for 60 years saw me do this he’d be livid… do you know how many welding rods you waste making a joint like this?

This is a lesson on how NOT to do it.

This is wrong and a huge waste of 7018 rod.

I am not a welder. But I know sure as shit this is wrong so I came in to see all the livid welders come in here with blood frothing from their mouths.

This is a good lesson for what NOT to do when welding. The welder is using a travel angle that is way too shallow (the rod should be pointing down into the base metal far more), meaning that weld may look pretty, but it didn’t penetrate and is sitting on top, so very it’s weak.

I would’ve just used super glue, me personally

There was no penetration/melting of the base material. You can see the first weld curling up at 17 seconds into the video.

jesus. ok, 30 rods and 4 hours later... to get someting i could break with my bare jumping up and down. ever heard of a drill press an 'bolt'???
