More taxing those of us who have worked hard, invested in property, and gone without for years just to pay our mortgages, while so many who live on benefits contribute very little, is not going to end well. Twenty years ago, the Government collected around £403 billion in tax. Today it's approaching £1.23 Trillion, and the tax take has risen from 28.3% of GDP to over 36.1%. We are paying more tax than at any point in a generation. The answer isn't ever-higher taxes or death taxes. It's reducing the size of government, cutting the welfare bill, stopping the practice of giving billions of pounds away overseas, and getting far better value for the money taxpayers already hand over. With the amount of tax being collected today, social care should be properly funded. The crisis in social care is the result of decades of poor political decisions by successive governments, not simply a lack of funding.

One wonders if perhaps we got rid of, say, an extra 9-10 million people who have no right to be here, how much less of a burden there would be on the social care system. Those same people who, by the way, do not contribute to the tax base. I am not paying for your social care scheme, Dandy.
