This is clearly vote buying, these people should be sued and we should test law on this. Both the giver and receiver should face the punishment of the law to deter these acts. Vote buying is a criminal offence under Nigeria’s Electoral Act 2026. Requiring citizens to show their PVC before collecting cash, rice, or any form of “empowerment” is not charity, it is electoral inducement. Section 22 of the Act criminalises buying or selling votes or voter cards, with penalties including: • Minimum ₦5,000,000 fine • Minimum 2 years imprisonment • Up to 10 years ban from contesting elections Both those distributing the items and those exchanging votes for them can be held liable. If we truly want change, citizens must stop selling their future for temporary relief. Democracy cannot survive where hunger is used as a campaign strategy. You cannot satisfy your immediate to cause greater suffering in the country. Citizens must understand the consequences of their actions.
