This is the most brilliant answer Spencer Pratt has given during his campaign. An ABC reporter asked Pratt, "Are you a big MAGA person?" Here's how Pratt responded: "I'm a big nobody person. I'm a big Spencer Pratt Angeleno person. I only represent myself, my community, Angelenos. I'm not...

Spencer Pratt is employing a strategy very similar to 2016 Donald Trump’s. 2016 Trump put himself in the same position that Pratt is putting himself in, which is to identify a corrupt elite that has weaponized the government against you. Trump put himself in between that corrupt elite and you and said in a nutshell: Listen, you were hurt by this corrupt elite. I came from this elite, and I know how they work, so I'm going to stand in between you and this elite. For Pratt, the day after he announced his candidacy for mayor, he pre-emptively gave left-leaning voters an off-ramp by essentially saying: Don't think of me as a Republican. Think of me as a person just like you, identifying a problem that has hurt both of us, and providing a solution that will help both of us. He's identified the elites—Mayor Karen Bass, Councilwoman Nithya Raman, Governor Gavin Newsom—and he's identified problems that Angelenos are suffering from that were caused by these elites. He's not running away from the fact that he's wealthy and famous. He's doing the same thing that Trump did. He's standing in between, but he's giving people who aren't Republicans permission to vote for him, based on the fact that he's not necessarily associating himself with the Republican brand. And I have no problem with this. Even if Pratt were to reject a possible endorsement from Trump, who cares? Pratt is not trying to appeal to Republicans in Los Angeles— Republicans are already going to vote for Pratt. He's trying to appeal to Democrats. And if Democrats have a pre-existing stigma associated with Trump, then an endorsement from Trump wouldn't necessarily help Pratt. But if Pratt can simply communicate to Democrats: 1) It's OK to change their minds, 2) It's OK to simply look at a problem and see that he— as a political candidate—is offering solutions, and 3) It would be smart to vote for these solutions because they benefit them and their families… …then that sets Spencer Pratt apart from almost any other politician that I have ever observed.

Spencer Pratt revealed his political role model and it's not who you'd expect... Democrats in Los Angeles can save face and still vote for Pratt because he's not associating himself with the Republican brand. Pratt's portraying himself as a Los Angeles citizen who's been hurt by the same things you've been hurt by, and he's proposing solutions. But just maybe, the fact that Pratt's proposed policies—many of which serve to restore the humanity and give meaning to the lives of the sizable drug-addicted population living on the streets of LA—is because of who Pratt's role model is. During an interview, a CNN reporter asked Pratt, "Who is your political role model?" His response: "Jesus Christ." Rather than asking any follow-up questions about Pratt's admiration for Jesus Christ, the interviewer fired back, "Are there any modern politicians that you're especially studying or drawn to?" Pratt's response was excellent, yet again: "No, I'm not a politician. I don't want to be a politician. I want to be a fighter for the people." It's so clear what CNN attempted to do in that moment—associate Pratt with a politician on the Right and force Pratt to defend all of that politician's worst statements and actions, thereby tanking Pratt's popularity with Democrat voters in Los Angeles. And Pratt handled it masterfully. CNN was so uncomfortable with that answer. When a politician seems sincerely inspired by his faith and is not simply using it as a talking point or a narrative, pandering to a certain demographic of voters, and when his policies reflect his faith beliefs—the dignity of every person made in the image of God—we should recognize this. Pratt's willingness to proclaim his faith in Jesus Christ sets him apart. And it is one of the reasons why we not only are fascinated watching him, but we should continue to do so.
