Retail investors lose more from life insurance policies than from F&O 🔸Loss from life insurance policies = ₹3.5 lakh crores* 🔸Loss from F&O = ₹1.05 lakh crores Sounds bizarre? But it's actually true. Here's how: Life insurers pay ₹2.3 lakh crores on account of surrenders/withdrawals Assuming this is a 40% surrender value*, people invested ₹5.8 lakh crores and lost ₹3.5 lakh crores in surrender penalties This may be the wealth destruction for FY25 alone This is more than what retail F&O traders lost in the last 4 years (₹2.87 lakh crores from FY22 to FY25) *Avg Persistency ratio of top 10 life insurers is ~50% for 5 yr period. Surrender value of traditional policies (majority business) is 0% to 50% b/w 0-5 yrs on multiple premium payment term policies. A 40% guesstimate was assumed for the calculation. Oversimplified to reflect the extent. Deeper study is needed for estimating the correct number.

#WATCH | Chennai, Tamil Nadu: On TVK releasing 'White Paper' regarding the state's fiscal position, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai says, "We have seen many white papers, and the emphasis seems to be on the fact that the debt has doubled from 2021 to 2026. What they are omitting to mention, or the fact that they are not deliberately highlighting, is that the GSDP of the state has also grown from 20 lakh crores to 40 lakh crores. When you look at that parameter, you should not look at absolute numbers. You should look at that with reference to the GSDP, the percentage. The percentage is still within the percentage recommended by the 15th Finance Commission. This is an excuse for them not to implement the promises. The timing of this white paper is to divert attention from the worsening law and order situation..."

#WATCH | Delhi: On former Finance Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg's statement alleging GDP data revision from Rs 86 lakh crore to Rs 80 lakh crore to inflate the latest Q1 2026-2027 figures, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) Secretary Saurabh Garg says, "...Whenever we compare year-to-year, we always compare on constant prices because current prices include price inflation, and therefore current price is not the correct method to compare year-to-year. Whenever we do a comparison, we need to compare like to like; we can't compare apples to oranges. So what has been done is that the current GDP of the old series, which has already become obsolete, and the data we had released last year, has been compared with the current GDP of this quarter of the new series... If you look at the volume output, for example, the number of automobiles produced, the amount of cement produced, the amount of steel produced, and you compare this from quarter one of last year and quarter one of this year, this shows extremely high growth rates of 12 per cent, 14 per cent, 16 per cent when we look at volume growth. Making this statement that there has been some data fudging done is extremely unfortunate..."
