THIS is the real rent crisis in NYC. Luxury buildings keep going up. Working people keep getting pushed out. This didn’t happen by accident. It happened by approval. “The middle class isn’t shrinking — it’s being evicted.” Teachers. Transit workers. Nurses. City workers. People who keep New York running... show more

Son, this is what you have voted for your whole life.

Their goal is to have those luxury apartments ready for the foreign born oligarchs who fund their campaign. The saudis, Chinese, Russians.. are all going to be “migrating” to those luxury apartments after they chase out everyone else.

It’s because the city is corrupt. They want money and power.

@cafecitobreak I don’t know about your neighborhood but mine is packed with illegals … have no idea where they are from, few speak any English … that is where our middle income housing is going

Not just NY the entire northeast. And raising taxes not the answer.

The mass invasion of illegals isn't helping either. They estimate Biden invited in up to 20 million illegals. In addition to that, we have 55 million visa holders. Affordable housing can't be built in blue states because of costs and bureaucratic red tape. Everything democrats do screws the working class.

Building more luxury housing isn’t why rent is expensive. Rent is expensive bc a lot of people want to live in that area and the demand is outpacing the supply. So if you don’t build enough of any housing lower income people who don’t have rent control will get kicked out

It’s money laundering… most of those apartments never get rented … it’s all fake tenants & fake rent rolls

And truth be told a lot of those buildings are over 50% vacant because there aren’t enough working class ppl in the city who makes that income to qualify for those apartments. So I’m trying to figure out who they are building all of these expensive ass units for?

Rent control hurt everyone.. 🤷♂️ There's no easy solution here.

Wait till you realize anything below 250k isn't middle class. It's working poor.

Rents come down when overall housing supply goes up— those buildings in aggregate bring down pricing pressure and frees up other units. Rent control brings the total supply of housing down — this is what socialists can’t understand— basic economics of supply and demand. Bring down rents and prices by drastically increasing supply (and getting rid of illegal migrants that occupy low cost housing).

Socialism is when a small group of people are super rich, and everyone else is dirt poor

Been happening since the minute crime starting going down in the late 90's. Ounce falling crime became the norm, the real estate, the neighborhoods were for sale. Be going in for almost 30 years, hasnt stopped.

It’s going to Gentrifiers … #ZohranMamdani Voters … His constituency. Non #NewYorkers !

It's gonna get worse as high paying jobs leave also for Texas

Many city jobs are crazy low pay compared to the cost of living here. Did I read that EMT's start at $40k? But even the better paid city workers who make around $100k are getting priced out. NYC has become a two class city. The middle is almost gone.

The only buildings worth building with New York City costs to build and complex regulation is luxury units. Anybody who tells you otherwise is lying to you or doesn’t know any better.

Same thing in California

When rent control locks more than a million homes out of the free market, you end up with exactly these distortions.

You cucks make the problem worse by blocking housing Be an abundance-bro Not a scarcity-ho

Absolutely, small long time landlords being pushed out

If this is new housing and is being rented, that would mean someone who is currently living in a different apartment is moving into them. They vacate a property and that makes it available for someone else. More availability makes rents stabilize or go down, UNLESS these are just new people moving in and growing the population. Which is good for local businesses. More housing is a good thing for everyone

If you haven’t noticed, the game is over in its entirety. The players may still be active but the game in itself is over.

And developers of the luxury buildings were being given huge tax incentives to build .. even 30 year tax abatements. Which adds insult to injury to homeowners. The additional costs needed to fund more schools & services is paid for by homeowners via increased property taxes

This is economically illiterate.

Take into account real estate is being built by funds, not individual investors, so in order for people to get a "good return " the numbers require you to build expensive housing🤷🏾♂️

The rent crisis exists because of supply&demand. There's a growing population competing over a limited housing stock. Also theyre building at a massively slow pace compared to how the population has exploded these past few decades. Of course rent is high, there's no apts available.

@cafecitobreak

Are we suppose to cry for you because this is what you have voted for time after time!

They are creating a New way of getting most Latino and Black's to want to just give up on N.Y.C and go live under a Rock somewhere! YOU'LL🫵 OWN NOTHING! AND LIKE "IT"..🤔🧐

My theory is they have been funneling a certain demographic into these “affordable rent” or lottery buildings so they will be projects in the future

I've been saying this for years. Mamdani is only going to make it worse. He is picking up where others have left off. Stop voting for these clowns. Tax the rich they say but it's only the middle class that is getting destroyed. The rich endorsed them
