Y2K and Covid. We are so done with it all.

Now that I look back on it... maybe Y2K really was the end, society has steadily gone downhill since then 😅🤦‍♂️

I worked the y2k bug for a mortgage company. We spent half of the morning on New Years Day testing, everything worked perfectly, and sent us home with a 50 dollar gift certificate and an "I Survived the Y2K Bug" hat or tee shirt or something.

I worked my butt off between '97 and '99 to FIX the bl... thing, I get a little sad when I hear this. Very little blew up and nothing fell from the sky because we fixed most before the event. Enough happened worldwide to show what COULD have happened.

Cute. Funny. In the 90s, everyone went from fearing total nuclear annihilation, to fearing HIV/AIDS, which was a death sentence. Gen X was already exhausted from living under impending doom for their entire childhoods. When Y2K didn't happen, it was almost disappointing. :)

This is an old joke... The reason nothing notable happened is a lot of coders fixed old code. Whereas with things like climate and covid they are deliberately creating the bugs and have no idea what fixing even means apart from gaining more control over everyone.

I worked on the Y2K bug for an insurance company. Before fixing any code we simulated Y2K in a test environment. The way I remember it, it was mainly billing problems and lesser bugs that were only found by running code analyzers. Nothing catastrophic happened.

There were companies paid to analyze the systems at other companies, speakers and expert panels at conferences. The world collectively held its breath as news stations counted down to the inevitable disruption. Then ... Nothing happened. At all. Fool me once ...

Yeah, we were all supposed to be dead by now. Just about everything we've ever been led to believe that was supposed to have dire consequences never comes to fruition, so they make up other shit, sleight of hand.

Yes except the problem was real. But pretty much contained to a single industry. We spent a shit ton of resources making sure every system either worked or failed gracefully.

I was living in Rome at the time of Y2K. Parents back in the states begged me to come home before the world shut down. I stayed and had the best NYE of my life out salsa dancing til 6am with friends. What a time!

LOL. My PC actually died the night of Y2K because I shut it off. When I turned it back on, the hard drive was grinding really loudly & the PC did nothing. Fear of Y2K killed my PC, not Y2K itself.

My sister worked at a title company in the “YTK Team” worked crazy hours going through all the computer code. Think they gave them a lunch.

And anyone over the age of about 50 aren't falling for it because they told us that the next ice age was coming soon. When that one didn't work, they switched it around to now it's going to get too hot. So-called experts aren't showing any of that expertise.
