As a retired law enforcement officer it infuriates me how many “law enforcement” officers out there don’t have a clue what they are talking about in these circumstances. DEI hire at best, intentionally violating someone’s civil rights at worst.

They’re basically trying to argue that you with your sign are a separate event, instead of a part of the permitted event in the street. Attendees are considered a part of the permitted event, but because of your speech, you’re no longer an attendee. Bizarre legal theory.

The permit is to close the street to vehicular traffic and allow the public to stay in the roadway. It does not discriminate as to what part the f the public may access the street.
