This is unbelievable. In total shock. How incredibly sad.

The compassionless voice response is how many speak to people in distress here. It’s pervasive culture. If we are truthful, we’ll acknowledge the unkind, brusque telling off that characterises many dialogues between HCWs & vulnerable people. I’ve faced & heard it aplenty 1/

I called Lifeline once and I’ll never do it again. I got off the phone feeling worse than before I reached out. They’re so dismissive, have no empathy and I felt as though the guy wanted to be doing anything else but taking my call. I overdosed that night.

I've done the LifeLine training and Mental Health First Aid. Whoever that woman was, was NOT following any of the training. Keep the person alive, connect them to services as quickly as possible. He clearly needed help and he could still be with us if she'd done the basics. :-(

My gods, how does a person so devoid of any skerrick of compassion be in this position, dismissing a person in a crisis with such cold & disinterested responses?! I'm utterly gobsmacked. She escalated his crisis.

To listen to a young person genuinely reaching out for help is heartbreaking enough. In this circumstance where a helpline employee is actively being callous and dismissive must verge on illegal behaviour. What are the employment & training requirements for helpline employees?

As a nurse, I just have to say hopefully that nurse is out of her position now. What detached and disinterested behaviour she displayed. 😡 Guilt will be her karma, for treating this young man the way she did.

How do people with zero empathy get to hold down these types of jobs? What a disgrace.

Anybody that dismissive and with that tone of voice should never be working in mental health and probably not with people. Disgraceful attitude.
