these replies piss me off so bad “why should i have to explain why incest is wrong?” that is the entire point wtf youre allowed to admit you just find it yucky

the literacy crisis is happening in real time under my post 😭

Everyone is failing the question in the comments and r genuinely just stupid as fuck lmao. Absolutely 0 critical thought or reasoning skills present 😭

the literacy crisis in action 😭

……is he talking about the Island Boys

big if true

I hate intuitive morality so goddamn much one of the biggest black pills I've had to swallow is realizing that genuinely like 90% of people don't actually have a moral system other than vibes and "it makes my tummy hurt therefore it's wrong."

basically yeah

My brain genuinely decayed looking at this comment section

in my experience if you ask anyone to deconstruct their inner thoughts their brains just explode

implying that power dynamics can’t exist bc they’re the same age and gender, iirc identical… sounds like a very strange excuse.

probably just an oversimplification or misguided view on his end but i doubt it's out of malice🤷♂️

It’s morally wrong because morality is objective. Moral truth doesn’t originate from our personal preferences or social consensus, but ultimately from God. More specifically, incest is morally wrong because it violates the proper order and purpose God established for human sexuality, marriage, and the family. If you reject any objective moral standard outside of ourselves, then you still have to explain what makes incest objectively wrong, rather than simply something you personally dislike or society has decided to prohibit. Otherwise, you end up in a loop trying to derive an objective moral obligation from subjective human preferences.

okay, then why does god consider it morally wrong?

Because God's moral law isn't arbitrary. He doesn't just randomly declare things good or evil. Incest violates goods inherent to human sexuality and the family. Sexual union is ordered toward marriage, procreation, and the union of spouses, while familial relationships have their own distinct order and obligations. Incest collapses those boundaries and corrupts the family relationships those sexual relationships presuppose. So the answer isn't simply "because God said so." God forbids incest because it is contrary to the good of human beings and the nature and purpose He gave to sexuality and the family.

what says that "human sexuality and the family" are inherently morally positive

think I've made the point intended to make. The video asks what makes incest objectively wrong beyond simply saying "its gross" and gave an objective moral framework that answers that question. You don't accept God's moral authority, which is precisely why we're going to keep moving backward into "but why is that good? and "what makes that morally binding?" You're now asking me to justify the foundations of objective morality itself, which is a completely different metaethical discussion. Without agreeing on what ultimately grounds objective moral obligations, we can keep asking "why?" indefinitely. don't have the time or interest to go down that rabbit hole. My point was simply that within the Christian worldview, have an objective basis for saying twin incest is morally wrong that doesn't reduce to think it's gross!" If you reject that foundation, you're free to offer your own account of what makes "twincest is morally wrong" an objectively true statement rather than a subjective preference. But I'm not spending the night going through an infinite chain of "why or what" questions

You could make the argument that morals function to maintain a civilized society. To maintain a civilized society, health is an important aspect. Incest leads to congenital diseases, therefore to prevent such debilitating diseases, there will be morals against incest.

sure but then you'd have to define civilized in terms of morality

@Narudo__ Civilised is everywhere the white man is

@cinnamonmaxxing @Narudo__ Colonizers' mindset

@INTRUSIVE234 @cinnamonmaxxing Plz elaborate

@INTRUSIVE234 @cinnamonmaxxing Because they’re basically equating ‘civilized’ with the presence of white people, as if European culture is the default standard for civilization. That’s literally one of the ideas colonialism used to justify treating non-white societies as inferior.

@INTRUSIVE234 @cinnamonmaxxing Ohh you’re referring to what INTRUSIVE said. I thought they were being sarcastic. But yes historically “civilized” has been a colonial term. Here though I just mean a level of productivity where a society is deemed functional.

I have read so much fanfiction in my lifetime that is not an issue to me anymore

thats one way to see it

see he fails to consider that familial relationship in itself is a power dynamic regardless of age gap. twincest is still morally concerning because of the inherent power dynamic within a family structure.

Why do we have to explain why I dont like incest lmfao 😭😭

because im a moral philosophy major

And we're not omg you're morbid actually

@cinnamonmaxxing well youre the one who commented idk

@cinnamonmaxxing I just find it annoying when yall act like these esoterics for challenging the belief that incest is bad like you know that shits bad but you need to give out dick in booty thinkpieces

@_phixel you objectively just don't understand what happens in a moral philosophy class😭

@_phixel Literal world salad im cryinggg

@_phixel ? no?

So much of this “discourse” is useless banter about something we have never had to debate because it was universally just understood but a spiritual Redditor needs to “um actually” everyone into oblivion. Go to hell and rot.

its a philosophical thought experiment 99% of them aren't things that happen in the real world, just hypotheticals to challenge someone's bias

And there wouldn’t be anything wrong with that if social media and the public square wasn’t as influential as it was but it unfortunately is used as a measurement and proof for how the majority think and believe even when it’s not which is the issue with these things online.

i know that, that also plays a role when engaging with a thought experiment

It's objectively wrong because I find it wrong and my opinion is objective fact. Simple as that.

i guess man

If you need a hyperspecific example with a lot of caveats and guarantees to make an action moral, that action inherently isn't moral and should be disallowed even then on the basis of normalizing it. You can justify doing anything immoral with extreme or specific circumstances.

White people white peopling...

white is when moral philosophy?

Our bodies are genetically coded against incest, because when offspring is produced from said incest they are deformed and have birth defects. Meaning the mixing of dna that resembles the other too closely results in deformation, instability, and even death.

sure but we're talking about morality here

This example’s one reason why I think people need to stop trying to argue that all of their personal opinions are tied to some sort of moral standard instead of it just being their opinion. Like there doesn’t NEED to be a logical reason why it’s bad, you can just think it’s gross

“Reality is not universal” Yet universally humans don’t like incest or cannibalism. So perhaps you just are not intelligent enough in your courses to put it into words yet.

incest and cannibalism are not universally seen the same thats half the reason why this is a thought experiment in the first place

The same no. Similarly rejected *almost* universally by *almost* every society of humans that we have record of. Yes there are cases here and there where you might find it accepted. But overall no.

it triggers a hormonal response that is unfair to them developmentally. and if they were neglected or in any way primed to do such a thing

omg again with these would you fuck roadkill ass questions

that's a very good thought exercise ngl

personally i’d make a social claim that its wrong because it introduces intimacy into groups where it shouldn’t exist, threatens familial structure, and alters psychological relations in regards to other people

cronenberg when he was directing dead ringers:

I’m so tired of you weird ass niggas man

guy discovers thought experiments

Aren't we all technically related one way or another? So wouldn't that mean anyone currently in a sexual relationship committed some form of incest?

prehistoric incest goons

Just to make sure…..u dont have a twin brother right?

no?

"Oh yeah I find it gross ofc" mf in entire video was trying to defend why is it ok to have sex with your twin

going into the details of why something is justifiably morally bad =/= defending it

incest is wrong for many reasons. scientifically, breeding with that close a genetic person causes gene defects in offsprings. also, it’s just gross gng.

"it's just gross" as a reason would get you laughed out of an ethics class

Because family serves as a safe, NON-erotized space. Transforming a sibling relationship into a sexual one alters the nature of that social support system for both the individuals involved and their immediate circle..

Breaking: man with pronouns in bio wonders why incest is wrong.

not my bio

Thats whats happend when you have no god in your life , next thing you will be asking why murder is wrong or why raping is wrong etc .

guy discovers thought experiments

"hmmmm how do i turn a load of factual objective information into an 'ought-to' statement" if only someone wrote a book on this

?

...hume? the is-ought problem? op is wondering why all "incest is bad" arguments eventually come back to "it's just bad ok" and he's so close to getting that purely descriptive statements cant be used to logically come to a moral conclusion.

And it’s yucky + someone probably got groomed into and the groomed twin probably thinks it’s okay + it’s a justified social taboo

ok but its not a social tabboo everywhere

The issue is, I dont believe twins decide to have sex with each in a vacuum. I would assume they have some type of trauma which caused them to become attached to each other. Idk maybe thats not the case but I've never heard of twin incest where there were childhood issues
