From the Arkansas-Florida game today. With a runner on 3B tagging the Arkansas CF dekes an early catch before he really catches the ball. It triggers the Florida runner to leave early & then return to 3B to retag the base. That gives Arkansas time to throw him out at HP.

The catcher as his own cutoff man. There are times when the cutoff man is late or the throw is uncutable that catcher has to make the decision on his own. Keep your head on a swivel. See where the runner is when the ball is released. In general, if the runner is on or passed 3B

ANATOMY OF A DELAY PICK @ 3B 1) Momentum game changer. 2) Low risk especially with a LHH if you practice it. 3) Based on base runner relaxing & taking his eyes off the catcher assuming he is going to throw the ball back to the pitcher when he sees him going to his knees. 4) Throw must be directed up & into fair territory so as not to hit the runner or have the 3B screened out by the runner. 5) Third baseman positions closer to 3B so can casually move to 3B to receive the throw so you don’t alert the 3B coach. IMO THIS IS TRULY A LOW RISK PLAY. IF YOU ARE A SAFETY 1ST LOW/NO RISK PLAYER OR COACH, THIS IS PROBABLY NOT FOR YOU. KNOW THAT YOU ARE PASSING UP AN OPPORTUNITY TO AFFECT THE MOMENTUM & OUTCOME OF A GAME.

Cubs Carson Kelly trails Nolan Arenado on a pop fly hit down the RF line with no runners on base that both the 1st & 2nd basemen go for. He is in position to take a back door throw from Kyle Tucker when Arenado falls down on his aggressive turn.

For me the big takeaway on this play is how hard CF Rojas closed on this play to prevent Thomas from going to 3B. Rojas breaks hard as soon as the ball is by the hitter. Nine ways to score from 3B & two from 2B. Often takes pitcher’s extra chase breaking ball away.

In case you missed it, this is what I was referring to. Arteta returns the ball to Martinelli, who goes to take a quick throw. But Justin stands on his foot and puts his left arm around him to prevent the throw. Ref is looking, Martinelli/Arteta appeal, nothing given.

Sometimes it's hard to pin down what 'bad baseball' looks like. Standing dead still with the ball in your glove and facing away from a runner sliding into home behind your back is a pretty good example.

When an infielder makes a play where he is out of control, bounce the throw. This ensures the ball can be caught…The worst that can happen is the runner is safe at 1b and DP is still in play…trying to make the long perfect throw could lead to an overthrow or an in between hop

Escaping is easy, the hard part is staying free Sesko: - eyes on CB = he can move left as he sees the Cb scan right - diagonal run from the CB + controls his deceleration through his left foot to meet the ball on time

🚨 PFPs : Covering 1st • Sprint over w/ an arc to your run • Catch the ball at the grass-dirt cutout • Tag the base on the inside • Break it down & turn ready to throw ⭐️ Pick a spot 3 feet up the line & slowly arc to the base as you run - to avoid getting stepped on.

Don’t be like this player. So many players still don’t use boost efficiently, even though boost management is the most important skill in the game. A good guideline is to save boost for when you’re making a play on the ball and use your movement to get to the ball. Here is a player who uses all of his boost to chase the ball, and when he ends up low on boost, he keeps chasing anyway. This leads to him bumping his teammate and giving up an easy goal.

Rockies down 2-0 in the bottom of the 9th with runners on 1B & 2B & they base hit bunt. The Red Sox are not surprised. They close with their 3B & 1B BUT their second baseman is way out of position to get to 1B before Cole Carrigg(A plus runner). In this situation the 2B can’t hold the runner on 2B & beat Carrigg to 1B. Looked like everything slowed down due to his lateness getting to 1st base. The SS has to hold the runner at 2B & the 2B has to cheat his positioning towards 1B so he beats Carrigg. It appears like they are hedging their positioning to protect the 6 hole in case Carrigg swings the bat. You can’t play everywhere. If you expect a bunt, you have to be in the best position to defend the bunt. The bunt was excellent. It was an early turn base hit bunt. Great direction & speed. The BHB choice put Carrigg in a better position to get out of the box fast(After seeing the ball down) & just beat the play to 1B. Of course you can argue that both teams did what they were supposed to do & the Rockies just out executed the Red Sox.

The ball boy purposely gave the foul ball to the kid in the front row but he ended up missing it and the goof with the sunglasses picked it up and gave it to his partner instead of the kid. You can tell this is the type of good who will tell his friends he made an amazing catch in the stands. Don’t be this guy.
