This is what maritime security looks like. Built for complex environments where protecting national waters demands more than presence alone. Engineered to operate in contested waters, close coverage gaps, and sustain maritime operations where it matters most.

CENTCOM Partners with Over 30 Nations, International Organizations for International Maritime Exercise (IMX) 2025 U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) hosted the International Maritime Exercise (IMX) 2025, the Middle East region’s largest multinational maritime exercise, February 9-20. IMX 25 involved 5,000 personnel from more than 30 nations and international organizations committed to preserving the rules-based international order and strengthening regional maritime security cooperation. Hosted by U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT), the 12-day exercise offered a unique opportunity for participants to collaborate and illustrate the importance of regional maritime security cooperation. This year’s iterations of IMX is linked with exercise Cutlass Express, a U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa led annual exercise designed to enhance regional maritime awareness and the combined capabilities of partner nations to respond to maritime threats. The operational phase of IMX included partner exchanges on mine countermeasures, unmanned systems and artificial intelligence integration, vessel defense, search and rescue, and mass casualty response. Allies and partners at IMX 25 also had an opportunity to train with Combined Task Force West (CTF-W) Headquarters where partner forces performed Explosive Ordnance Disposal and dive operations, Close Quarters Combat drills, and Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) container climbs. Additionally, CTF-W hosted eight partner nations, including six members from the Republic of Yemen Government (ROYG) Coast Guard in Aqaba, the Northern Red Sea, and Eilat. “IMX 25 demonstrates the collective commitment of our respective allies and partners to support regional maritime security cooperation, increase interoperability, and strengthen security and stability in the region,” said Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM commander. This is the ninth iteration of IMX since its establishment in 2012.

When RT. Hon Chibuike R. Amaechi took over as Minister of Transportation, Nigeria’s coastal waters were among the most dangerous in the world. The Gulf of Guinea was a global hotspot for piracy, 86 reported attacks in 2020 alone. Ships paid millions in war-risk insurance, and foreign operators avoided Nigerian ports altogether. Amaechi decided to change that. He championed the Anti-Piracy Law, the first of its kind in West and Central Africa, creating a legal framework to prosecute maritime crime. Then he conceived the Deep Blue Project, also known as the Integrated National Security and Waterways Protection Infrastructure, designed to secure Nigeria’s waters from land, sea, and air. Amaechi set up a state-of-the-art command centre (C4i), and provided the following equipment: 16 armored coastal patrol vehicles 600 specially trained maritime troops 4 drones 2 Special Mission Aircrafts for surveillance 2 special mission vessels 17 Fast interceptor boats 4 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. 3 Special Mission Helicopters for search and rescue By 2021, piracy in Nigerian waters had dropped to its lowest in 27 years. Kidnapping incidents were down 80%, and in 2022, Nigeria was officially removed from the International Bargaining Forum’s war-risk list, a milestone that saved the country about $67 million annually in private security and insurance costs. For his leadership, Amaechi was named Champion of Maritime Security by the Africa Blue Economy Forum in 2022. Even the Republic of Korea commended the project, calling it “a contribution to regional and international stability.” Amaechi’s vision wasn’t just about protecting ships; it was about restoring confidence, saving money, and delivering results. #CRA27 #Amaechi
