Sad part is that the vast majority of the trash comes from commercial fishing activities and not land waste. Land waste ends up on shore almost immediately. I watched one of the episodes where they provided a breakdown of the sources. There needs to be some accountability for those groups.

Is this good? It’s much smaller, ya? I kept expecting the video to pan up to a massive island of trash. I don’t understand the context

Was just in Vietnam Ha Long Bay. The garbage was disheartening.

Well that's pretty selective for an image of the GPGP. Anyway here's another image.

So when are you going to tell off China?

Is this post to suggest this is how it looks AFTER your efforts? Is this better or worse?

The video is intended to help illustrate the reality of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and the scale of the challenge we're working to address. The Patch is over twice the size of Texas and is more akin to a "plastic soup" than a physical island of plastic. Plastic continues to enter the ocean through rivers, lost fishing gear, and other sources, while ocean currents concentrate it in gyres. That's why our approach focuses on both preventing new plastic from entering the ocean through initiatives like our 30 Cities Program and reducing lost fishing gear, while also removing plastic that's already there. Through this comprehensive strategy, we're aiming to clean up 90% of floating ocean plastic pollution by 2040. Ambitious but achievable. Read more about our research on the GPGP here:

This is what the Great Pacific Garbage Patch actually sounds like:

We're doing our part along the rivers of Tennessee 🫶🏻♻️💙

And here is who did it. I wonder who pays for cleanup?

Isn't this after numerous groups go out and remove millions of tonnes of waste each every year?

Trying to get us to drink from paper straws laced with PFAS and gold paint - meanwhile in Asia:

Looks a lot smaller. Thanks for your hard work

people really think it’s a floating island but it’s more like glitter in a smoothie. and yeah the fishing industry loves to play dumb about it.

Love the work you’re doing. You make my heart sing.

Is there a way to get rid of these micro plastics?

China's fishing fleet accounts for almost 1/3 of this.

Coming back from Hawaii, I couldn't believe all the trash i seen in the ocean.

I don’t see anything lol

call it the giant Pacific Ocean garbage patch let's not give it a compliment here, let's erase it

Comes from the great rivers in Asia

Poor video - how big is the patch? Stop trying to be clever and just show it from above

That’s not what it looks like you fuckin loser

Incredible, how much work have you done... Bravo!!

World of greed, created by darwinism causes pollution

Tell the street shitters of india to stop dumping garbage in the water................. 99% of problem solved

does this thrash comes from india and china?

please speak with India and southeast Asia about their trash rivers flowing into the ocean

From where it got so much garbage? From Japan, China, the Korea , and the US. They through all their trash in oceans to make sure that their cities are clean and have audacity to call India a dirty country

This is way worse than it looks because the plastic has largely broken down into microscopic particles and the sea life in the patch is infested with it.

It is genuinely haunting to see the sheer scale of waste out there.

Ask India how much they gaf

pacific, huh

Bravo! Ha sido un trabajo arduo y con evidencia científica. Felicitaciones a todo el gran equipo y a su líder!

Thanks India

Idk but i don't think there is anything great about it.
