Every second, it reconstructs the world from past experience, beliefs, and expectations - and you mistake that reconstruction for “objective reality.” Optical illusions simply make this mechanism visible. Sonder is what happens when that illusion breaks for a second. You stop seeing people as scenery and start seeing them as entire worlds. That is what makes it powerful. It does not just make the world feel bigger. It makes you more humble, more patient, and a little more aware of how much you do not know about the people around you. For one second, the background characters disappear. And everyone becomes real.
