My friends baby died from this. @Energizer is now making batteries that have a bad taste and a blue dye so parents know they child had a button battery in their mouth. She just got Resses bill passed.

OMG As a mom of 7 w an 18 mos old granddaughter, this is scary. My sons all loved unscrewing the battery compartment lids’ tiny screws. I had to hide the screwdrivers, and put up all the butter knives. Some noisier toys went in the garbage.

Coins are nasty US coins contain zinc (Nasty toxic). Cupronickel ones release Nickel (carcinogen & more/causes heart arrhythmus), copper jacketed steel, can erode & leave the thin copper plating. Which is likely to be sharp & we now use copper plated steel ones

I was a juror in a civil suit where the child jammed a button battery up her nose, and both the parents and the initial doctor who examined her completely fucked up for months. Long story short, she will now live with a huge hole in her septum. I’ll never forget that horror

We had a similar case in a 2 years old. It was initially missed by the parents and at the time of presentation the child had an aortic-esophageal fustula after erosion at inominate takeoff. The child underwent Partial median sternotomy + EGD and extraction of button battery, +
