Our name is not even Ewe… like a female sheep 🐑. It’s actually Evè… with the “v” having a symbol “~” on top but because we adopted the English alphabet that doesn’t have those letters, it’s simple spelled “Ewe”.

Not completely true. My mom is a direct descendant of Ayi and this isn't the story passed down. It has to do with a Ga fetish stool that was taken by Ayi to Togo during a civil war. After the war, he was instructed to return the stool which he refused to do. Hence the Ayi-gbe
