Theres an estate I went to around VGC ,..over 500 homes in that area without a single tree . How do you live like that ?

Houses don't have car parks, do you really think they will plant trees? The truth is, a lot of these houses are not supposed to exist in the first place.

There’s no truth to what your developer friend said, Nigerians care about trees but the developers don’t simply because they’re trying to sellout every available space.

@youngmaster_478 This is also a residential area in Lagos.

@ThaBoyYom Cutting down trees makes the place hotter because trees naturally provide shade that blocks direct sunlight from roads, roofs, cars, and walls. Without that shade, concrete, asphalt, & buildings absorb and store more heat during the day, then release it slowly. Terrible planning.

Makes sense why I'm not feeling the heat and I live in the same Lagos. We have 2 coconut trees, some banana plants, an avocado and mango tree where I live. It's always windy and cool. Meanwhile my former resident in same area was hot as hell.

The government can mandate planting a tree on every property. It’s up to the owners to figure out how they’ll do it. You can plant mango, pawpaw, palm trees etc.

Screaming this for a while… trees everywhere growing up in this same city! Now it’s just extreme heat, degraded air quality and that constant, discomforting stench. Such a terrible culture — we keep building but no one is preserving. We’ve turned a livable city into a heat trap.

I have been saying this. There's no tree in Lagos. No greenery. Everywhere is full rocks and stones.

Ikeja GRA was a lush paradise, characterized by vibrant greenery & extensive tree coverage. The area was not just a residential hub but a thriving ecosystem where trees flourished, providing shade & beauty to the landscape. Walking from the Ikeja Golf to the Country Club Serene

@tokunbo_wahab please help pass this message to whoever is in charge of the urban and regional planning, sir. I know you actually work close to them.

You're very observant. The government needs to look into tree planting programs or have institutions whose responsibility would be managing trees in our cities.

You are right. In my estate in Lagos, the landlord associations cut down a beautiful tree. Sometimes, cars park under the tree as shield. Landlords association said the tree leaves is littering everywhere 🤦‍♂️ and best solution is to cut it down.. Elderly people with zero sense

Lagosians (at least, Nigerians in Lagos) tend to be averse to trees. I remember when Fashola was planting trees in Lagos during his governorship tenure, he was heavily castigated for "wasting" money to plant trees. Subsequent administrations have been a tad lax to continue.

its actually simple. Min of environment in Lagos state can plan to plant 3 million trees depending on the plan and phased approach.

This is exactly what we're building at Isimi Lagos in Epe. The estate is designed around the land; trees, open green space, and a working farm. As Lagos gets hotter and more congested, land that actually preserves nature becomes rarer and more valuable. We're just early.

Facts! Greed prevents developers from doing that. Even in cases where space is set aside for green areas, they usually turn it into houses because of money. Mtchew😓😒

And NO palm trees. Absolutely useless and no shade. More shade giving trees.

@iconic_remi You see henn we are over educated and very ignorant and that’s what 9ja is all about . Common sense that is not common, they don’t have to tell you all that before you know the importance of trees in a community and who are supposed to regulate this laws ?
