I'm sure the 5,000 asylum seekers in Scotland will be running away from you. And if you're saying that a quarter of sexual assaults are committed by Muslims, that means three-quarters are committed by British men—so clearly, the bigger problem lies elsewhere.

Fair point, I hadn’t considered that. But the UK doesn’t publish sexual assault data by religion, so that claim can’t be verified. Also, it’s wrong to suggest that most illegal immigrants are criminals. That unfairly stereotypes a whole group based on a few.

Also “foreign national” doesn’t mean “illegal immigrant.” It simply means someone without a UK passport. That could be a European who’s lived and worked here for years, an international student, or a long term resident raising a family, paying taxes, even owning a home here. And just to be clear, there are actually no official, confirmed stats about crimes committed by people who are in the UK illegally that I can find anywhere so feel free to link them for me as would love to learn more. The only figures published are about foreign nationals (anyone without a UK passport), which is not the same thing. If 3 in 4 convictions are British nationals, then the overwhelming majority of sexual assaults are already being committed by people who are from the UK culture you’re stating newcomers should adapt to.

A Telegraph headline isn’t the raw data, it’s just reporting on MoJ figures. What those numbers actually say is that up to 23% of convictions are foreign nationals… which means around 77% are British. And again, “foreign national” doesn’t mean “illegal immigrant.” It covers EU citizens, students, and long term residents who’ve lived and worked here for years. Also this same data still shows the overwhelming majority of convictions are homegrown. This is just a journalist’s interpretation.

Yes Miss Sally 👏 people love to run with headlines without actually checking what the numbers mean. The stats clearly show most convictions are British nationals, and “foreign national” is such a broad category it’s definitely not synonymous with “illegal immigrant.” It’s lazy (and dangerous) journalism twisting figures into a scary story.

@Ricky_on1 @LanaWolfUK I fear that even if stats are challenged and unpicked and stories are verified and found to be false or highly finessed, some people are so invested in their beliefs and prejudices that they're not interested in a more reliable and evidenced 'truth'.
