And? These cars were incredibly expensive and complex even by today's standards. This suspension system ended up in Rolls Royce's because it wasn't practical for everyday cars. An interesting piece of engineering but overall a nightmare for maintenance and upfront cost

These people had not sophisticated tools, no AI assistance. Just raw curiosity, and a mind that refused to accept "it can't be done.” Half the things we call innovation today are just upgrades to what someone figured out in a shed 100 years ago. Modern tech is faster. But vintage engineering had something we've slowly lost , pure, uninterrupted human thought.

I don't think modern tech is afraid of vintage engineering. I think you're just making things up. Was the Citroen DS cool - absolutely. Was it a fickle beast that was overly complex for minimal return - absolutely.

Citroën was a one of a kind car maker with their innovative hydro-pneumatic suspension and aero styling. The engineers and designers actually controlled the company instead of the accountants and CFOs. They went bankrupt and were bought by Peugeot, but the badge remained.

Look into the cars for clunkers program. Engines built in the 80s/90s last forever and the government looked at this as a problem. In 2009 there was a program built to destroy as many of these vehicles as possible.

This made sense 50 years ago when car tires were waay weaker than now. Tires nowadays are way better built and more resiliant, and need to change tires is almost non-existent. I have been driving a car for over 20 years now and I never had a need to change tire on the road...
