this is wild! China is deploying humanoid robots at mass scale. UBTECH hit $112M in walker S2 orders last year and is targeting 5,000 units by EOY. 80% of every humanoid robot shipped globally last year came from China.

The real story isn’t the robots. It’s that China controls 80% of the supply chain before the US even has a policy on this.

this is where supply chain depth matters way more than flashy demos

Damian Player's profile picture

they’ve supplied the chain more than the majority?

Because China has the fastest deployment loop - factories, hardware supply chains, and real-world testing. The very capacity that the U.S offshored.

Can they repair and reproduce themselves?

Everyone reads this as a manufacturing headline. It's a sovereignty one. The layer under the automation wave is already spoken for, and the conversation hasn't caught up to the map.

Chinese robots are crap. They make nice demo videos but they’re useless by and large. Humanoids that are useful, relatively affordable, repairable, good battery life, etc… are when it’s a revolution.

Yeah same. What surprises me is that not many people are talking about the role Optimus is likely to play in space exploration. I mean that’s way down the line but personally I think being able to build things in space without the risk of loss of life is a total game changer.

Wild indeed. Though I suspect half these end up as expensive lobby decorations rather than solving actual problems.

So you’re happy when the Chinese robots show up to displace Americans, but will be sad when the American robots show up for the same purpose?

Anything humans can imagine eventually becomes a product. Scientific progress is amazing — right up until you start seeing the ambition behind it, and suddenly it feels less like innovation and more like a horror movie.🙄

the humanoid robot conversation in the west is still theoretical. in china it's a supply chain. that's a gap nobody really talks about

What amazes me is how these will quickly become old models when newer, stronger and more capable ones are built. We are gradually making sci-fi movies a reality

What are they capable of tho? That’s the real question. China has a long history of less quality products

Looks like a scene from iRobot, but it raises more questions than it answers. Is AI generated? Are the robots autonomous or remote controlled?
