New video shows thick smoke billowing over the Cottonwood Fire as flames continue tearing through Piute and Beaver Counties. The fast-moving wildfire comes as Gov. Spencer Cox declared a state of emergency and temporarily restricted fireworks statewide, warning this year's fire conditions are unlike anything firefighters have seen before.

This video was sent to me by a viewer whose husband was evacuating their cabin near Eureka as the Cherry Fire exploded Friday afternoon. The flames can be seen burning on both sides of the road as he drove to safety. It’s a sobering look at just how fast this fire spread during the extreme winds and dangerous fire weather. The Cherry Fire is one of several large wildfires that rapidly grew across central Utah today, forcing evacuations, closing roads, and sending thick smoke across much of the state. If you’re in or near an evacuation area, don’t wait. Leave when you’re told. Conditions can change in minutes. Thank you to the family for allowing me to share this incredible video. Stay safe, Utah. 🔥

Firefighters and made a quick and aggressive attack on this fire with multiple engines, one of our handcrews, and coordinated water drops by our Firehawk helicopters.
