I think it’s more of an effort problem from coaching. We clearly have the ability but they are not coached to up the tempo.

Carrick is trying to get these players to actually play ball. He needs to understand, a majority of these players have cost multiple managers their jobs. They'll only respond if he shoves both barrels in them. Carrick needs to understand he'll not be able to return the glory days

It’s also an ability issue..we’ve too many players that just aren’t good enough and not enough depth to do anything about it. The board haven’t backed the manager with what he needs but they also haven’t backed the squad, at the end of the day their “workers” with terrible bosses

united have 7 players from 2019-2020 still getting real minutes in 2026. none of the other top teams more than 1-2, and those typically were academy graduates. you can’t get out of mediocrity if the core of your team has been mediocre for a decade.

As frustrated as Rudy Gobert has been about the Wolves' effort this season. He also said the accountability is not there. "There's just no effort. We've seen that many, many times this year, last few years since I've been here. We always know it's coming, and when it comes there's no sense of urgency. No accountability. So I think at some point, if the players don't have accountability, someone else gotta have accountability for the players. I'm just talking straight effort."

This is from today's #WCWS game. This was ruled a base hit when it happened (you can see the 'H' pop up), but was changed to a missed catch error by the first baseman at the bottom of the fourth. This is an impossible catch for the first baseman with a ball thrown from that angle, that hard. This throw has to be to the glove, and while it's not a wild throw, it's low enough that the first baseman cannot get her glove around it in time. This is where replay gets you in trouble. The slo-mo replay makes it look like it's a catchable ball, but it isn't. In real time, at live speed, this isn't an error. This isn't a missed catch or a drop. I was loving the call of a single, especially because it was the first hit, and then, when it was changed, it felt like it was to protect a no-hitter. Everything about this screams "above ordinary effort" ... I would have left this as a single.
