The idea of "race" as identity is repugnant. The idea a "race" belongs to a certain "culture" is repugnant. You are correct, individuals need to own their own choices, and those that they make for the ones they love. Whether others like, approve, etc, or not.

This is a hard truth. I've worked in the hip hop and rap industry in various capacities. Three of the artists and one sound engineer I worked with are now either in wheel chairs for life or dead, not from police, not from whites, but other blacks. It's a sad equation but simple, 7 out of 10 black homes don't have a father, who raises the kids? Hip hop and Rap literally gives young men without fathers a blueprint on what it means to be "the man". It's a shame because there are methods to use or consume the music in healthy manners like say a violent movie like Scarface. But the problem becomes it's availability, these tracks are played over and over again in young man's ears, they absorb it's messaging so deeply that they become it. Sorry to say but hiphop and rap will hold down the black community in negative ways, unless there is serious changes.
