Hare stopped to assist Smith with a flat tire on his BMW, but Smith approached Hare’s patrol car, shot him through the passenger window, then fired two more shots from the driver’s side, and drove off with Hare inside. Smith abandoned Hare, still alive, on a frontage road, crashed the stolen patrol car in Guadalupe County, and fled, later stealing a flatbed truck in Cuervo to reach Albuquerque. On March 17, 2024, Smith was arrested after a gas station clerk in Albuquerque recognized him; he attempted to ambush deputies, discarding the murder weapon during a chase. On January 17, 2025, Smith pleaded guilty to carjacking and kidnapping resulting in death, firearm charges, and was sentenced to life in prison without parole on April 21, 2025.

I'm tired of animals like this being sentenced to life in prison, able to live off taxpayers forever while their victims' families have to suffer through the memories every day. Life in prison isn't a punishment. Immediate DEATH is the appropriate sentence for this.

Trash like this are in every corner of this nation.. They aren’t born murders, they’re bred. Bred by lack of parenting, discipline, proper punishment for actions in all stages of life, ect. Build more prisons, institute longer sentences.

A couple of things. This happened when a murdering shitbird took advantage of a very obvious and sad mistake made all to often by otherwise excellent peace officers. He trusted. The next time you are confronted by a police officer, understand why he takes a certain posture. Maintains a certain distance. Is forcible and domineering in his commands. Seems grumpy and humorless. He simply knows the moment he trusts a stranger, lets down his guard or disregards officer survival protocols, he may die. It's that simple. And his kids will cry.
