When Trump said Hispanic migrants are “taking Black jobs,” what he really meant was: Black folks are taking white jobs, and we need to get the plantation back in order. I’m from the Deep South—the 50th-ranked state in the country. A state that’s over a third Black, yet run by conservatives who always find a way to blame Black communities for its failures. So, I’m never shocked by statements like these. But I do wonder—do all the folks who like to play nice and pretend everything is fine still feel that way today? We have a choice in how we move forward with each other. Trump should be letting the investigation play out, but he can’t help himself. He’s on a mission to restore what he and Elon see as the natural order: intelligent white men and women in charge—who, in reality, are just mediocre—backed by a handful of others who pledge their loyalty to whiteness. At this point, I just want us to stop pretending. And to the Black folks who never support Black leaders—is this better? The future we want won’t build itself. It’s on us to fight for—now.

We’ve got to stop letting people gaslight us into thinking racism isn’t real or that group economics isn’t necessary for Black progress. Right now, Black unemployment is up to 7.2%. For Black women, it’s risen from 5.5% to 6.3% since last year. If we’re serious about confronting discrimination, we have to be intentional about supporting each other. That’s not racist — that’s wisdom. There are always a few Black folks who choose to serve white supremacy. Darrell Glasper is one of them. If you call a Black man a “cancer” for standing up for his people, you’re not just out of line — you’re a tool of the very system we’re fighting. We have to call that out as boldly as they attack us. I’m a free Black man, and I act like it. My doctors? Black. Landscaper? Black. HVAC tech? Black. Electrician? Black. Esthetician? Black. Lawyers, tailor, publicist, business manager, print shop, mechanic — all Black. When I host events, I choose Black venues. Because the Black dollar has to build Black economic power. If you’re white in America, you don’t have to try to buy white — it’s the default. So don’t be offended when Black people choose to be intentional about building our own economic future. Black faces in white spaces do not equal justice for Black people. Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters—a Black man—looked at bodycam footage of his white officers punching a 22-year-old Black man in the face, breaking his car window, dragging him out, and slamming him to the ground over minor civil infractions, and defended them. Waters even had the audacity to say that if Black people “just comply,” these things wouldn’t happen. That’s a lie. Tell that to Philando Castile and the countless others who complied and still ended up beaten, brutalized, or dead. This is what happens when Black officials protect white power instead of Black lives. Representation without accountability is worthless. Being Black in a position of power means nothing if you use that power to uphold the same racist system that dehumanizes your own people.

There are Black men saying before we give support we want conversation. When those men are ignored, some of them choose to rebel. You can ignore what I’m saying, but I’m a man who talks to brothers every day. If we are going to build a path forward, it’s going to be rooted in Black people men and women having equitable footing. That’s how we collectively improve our quality of life. There are men who struggle with women in leadership, but the vast majority of Black men showed twice now that we don’t. We simply don’t want to be diminished while we do it. The majority of Black men will always stand with Black women, the same way Black women have always stood with us. The more we highlight that, the stronger it becomes. They want to divide us, and the more we feed that, the more it works. Numbers don’t lie, most Black men know what is at stake and act accordingly.
