I advise you to watch Macross Frontier... it's very nostalgic (and now he's the one who's nostalgic)... I'm warning you, there's a BIG chance you'll hate Macross after seeing Macross Delta, the worst Macross ever made... Kawamori still hasn't let go of that shit.

By far the coolest transformation, so much depth like the Original Macross, and the eye sensor tracker scream ace combat.

It really shows you how Roy truly was the Ace of the Unification Wars he boasted being during SDF And how only a pilot on the level of a genius could best him...

Roy is an ace from the war before the SDF-1 dropped to Earth. He never lost a fight. Even in his last fight, he didn't lose. He just didn't survive. 😥 Hope this doesn't spoil it for those that haven't seen the original Macross or the movie "Do You Remember Love"

If you ever get the chance to play the OG Xbox Robotech game, you get swarmed all the time and literally have to switch from one mode to the other to take down missiles while moving through terrain and the sky like this scene. Awesome story as well, 100% worth finding playthrough

The special markings on Roy Focker's aircraft pay homage to VF-84 "Jolly Rogers." This is because the squadron was extremely popular in Japan after appearing in the film "The Final Countdown", which was released before the production of The Super Dimension Fortress Macross. At the time, F-14-equipped squadrons were not flying around Japan. To the Japanese, the F-14 was most famously represented by the aircraft featured in the film. Perhaps also because of this, the squadron's name, "Skull", from the film has often been used as the name of the main squadron in subsequent works.

It really was epic to see the exploits of Roy Fokker during the unification war. Side note, I'm almost certainly in the minority on this, but the VF-0 Phoenix is by far and away my favorite Tomcat inspired Valkyrie. It's like a VF-1 but bigger, and those curves are just gorgeous.

now that I think about it. many remember this scene and rightfully so. but not that during all of this Roy was in the air with the intent of making sure as many of his men make it back. iirc he on several occasion is saying hold on ill be right there. Roy was that good

That poor SV-51, they didn’t have a chance.

This scene might be the most detailed depiction of the transformation process in the entire "Macross" series...

I think Zero has some of the best use of the Head Laser Anti Missile system. And this just shows what can be done with CGI in anime. If the studio is given the time to do it right.

That CG holds up pretty well.

Fun fact: As seen at the 27 sec mark, the entire transformation in real time actually takes less than a second.
