If they weren't taken in the first place, they wouldn't be hostages needing to be protected. I typically agree with your post, but this one is lost to me. I understand it, of course, but the counters are too great to not chirp up and comment. Great job reporting as you always do!

Israel shouldn’t have kicked out Palestinians from their land in the 1948 Nakba. Whereafter they continued violating international law and expanding and occupying into their remaining territory, violating agreements when even the enemy created PA decided to “accept” a 2 state solution. They don’t want that. They want all of Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Iraq and they’ve said as much. Hell Jordan and Egypt aren’t safe either. After the Nakba Israel began apartheid treating Palestinians as “less than human” their words not mine. Then apartheid led to concentration camps where Palestinians had limited movement, water, food, health & medical aid. Their businesses and areas of worship were raided for the purpose of destruction. Harassment by the IDF and an inability to live with the freedom the western world says they support. Hamas is but one faction of the resistance. After decades of this, and having thousands of their people and families killed or imprisoned they took 200 hostages. I would do far worse. They’ve been angelic to what I and others would do. And to what many “appalled” at Hamas would do and have done when someone attempts to take something as minimal as a purse or phone. Or when some kid wonders into a neighbors where he’s seen as a threat, and cite “self-defense”. Self-defense applies to those under occupation not the occupiers themselves. Westerners have a lot to learn & justify Israel’s war crimes because we’ve been protected by genocide ourselves. The U.S. wouldn’t exist without it. But it’s not normal and it must end. I hope I’ve made myself clear.
