A majestic tigress cools off in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu, reminding us that conservation, when pursued with determination, delivers results India’s tiger population has grown from 1,411 in 2006 to an estimated 3,682 in 2022, a remarkable journey built on decades of policy, science, sustained protection, dedicated frontline staff and the support of communities living alongside tiger landscapes. Tamil Nadu has been an important part of this journey, with its tiger population increasing from 264 in 2018 to 306 in 2022 across a landscape anchored by five Tiger Reserves. As the 6th cycle of the All India Tiger Estimation, the world’s largest wildlife monitoring exercise gets underway in 2026, we look forward to new milestones and renewed hope for the future of our tigers. #TNForest Video Supriya Sahu IAS

This Raccoon Led a Worker to the Dumpster… Then He Saw What Was Trapped Inside. At first, the worker probably thought the raccoon was simply hanging around looking for food. But instead of running away, it kept coming closer and drawing his attention toward the large dumpster nearby. When he finally opened the lid and looked inside, he discovered three smaller raccoons trapped among the trash with no easy way to climb back out. That’s when he came up with a simple solution — placing a wooden board against the dumpster to create a ramp. One by one, the little raccoons climbed their way to freedom. Moments later, they were back on the ground together, following the adult raccoon away as the worker watched them go. Sometimes the smallest act of kindness is all it takes to reunite an entire family.

On May 19, 2005, when Namjoon was a 10-year-old fifth-grade elementary school student, he wrote & shared his first poem for a competition. The poem was titled “The Korean Tiger and Reunification. "My poem (for the competition) “The Korean Tiger and Reunification” Not a small rabbit, but an intimidating tiger. The tiger broke his back. This tiger’s broken back makes him whimper and gives him endless pain. China, Japan, and the US all looked down on us, calling us a rabbit and not a tiger. But when the tiger’s back heals clean, the world will not be able to look down on us anymore. The South will resemble the North and the North will resemble the South. When the two colors on the flag mix to become purple in unity, the 70 million citizens will become one and look up at the sky with hands in hands. The day will come. With each step we take, we get closer to reunification. We’re not a small rabbit, but a brave tiger. We may not be together, but we are looking up at the same sky. The 70 million citizens are one with the tiger, walking forward one step at a time. Like this, we all walk toward reunification… Please let me know if you think I should fix something! ^^ — Kim Namjoon " P.S. Namjoon won the competition and his poem was praised by school officials, teachers, students, and parents. #RM #방탄소년단RM #BTSRM #김남준 #Namjoon

The Zoo earned its stripes – not once, but twice! 🐯🐯 Join us in welcoming the littlest pair of critically endangered Sumatran tiger cubs –– Barani and Malu! The births represent a lot of firsts for the Zoo, as these two girls are the first Sumatran tiger cubs born in Fort Worth Zoo history, the first cubs born in the renovated Predators of Asia & Africa tiger habitat, which opened in 2023, and the first tiger cubs of any species born at the Zoo in nearly two decades. There are fewer than 650 Sumatran tigers left in the wild, primarily due to habitat loss and deforestation, making these births especially important for the species' conservation. The renovated habitat allowed the Zoo to renew its conservation focus for this species. The Zoo participates in a cooperative Sumatran tiger breeding program with other North American zoos to ensure a genetically diverse, healthy population of this subspecies, which the two new cubs will contribute to. Born on July 1 to first-time mother Ndari and father Rakan, these sisters have spent the past 12 weeks growing and bonding with mom behind the scenes, while keepers keep a close eye on their growth and development – which includes milestones like learning to jump, play, run and climb. As the first cubs born in the new habitat, zookeepers want to be sure Barani and Malu are big and strong enough to navigate their public habitat. The Zoo is hopeful the cubs will make their public debut shortly. Keep an eye on our social channels and website for more updates!

Trump hinted that he would have bombed all of Ukraine in a week. ‘I am very disappointed with President Putin. I thought he would finish it quickly. This war was supposed to be over in a week. And I told him: ‘You know, you look bad. You have been waging a war for four years that was supposed to take only one week. Are you a paper tiger?’

🦈 Wild Ocean Encounter: Tiger Shark Following a Diver in the Deep Sea! 🌊 If you’re swimming in the open ocean and a tiger shark starts closing in on you… your first instinct is probably to swim away as fast as you can. But according to this diver, that might be the worst thing you can do. In this intense video, the shark is actively following and gaining on the diver. Here’s what the video explains: “If you’re swimming in the open ocean and you run into a tiger shark, your first instinct is probably going to be to swim away as fast as possible. This is a natural response that most people would have… but at the end of the day, no matter how fast you swim, the sharks will be faster.” “When you swim away from a shark, it actually triggers a predatory response in them, making them think that you’re prey running away and that you might be injured or vulnerable.” The better approach? •Stand your ground. •Make eye contact with the shark. •Remain calm. •If it keeps approaching, use your fins or any object to create space. •As a last resort: push down firmly on the top of the shark’s head. The diver demonstrates this in the video, the shark actually pushes harder into his hand and rolls up above him. Insane footage and super valuable advice if you ever find yourself in the open ocean!

🚨EMERGENCY DISPATCH FROM CHESNYY THE SERVICEROTTIE, PROFESSIONAL BIG SISTER & CERTIFIED RACCOON-HAT MODEL: Backyard has officially seceded from Earth and become Planet Marshmallow. Snow so deep I’m out here performing slow-motion triple-axel gazelle jumps like a 100-lb reindeer who missed rehearsal and is desperately improvising. Meanwhile, my 28-lb bouncing pork chop Kenji is ricocheting across the surface—boing, boing, boing—like a fuzzy pinball that chugged rocket fuel and now believes gravity is optional. We held the 2025 World Championship Tug-of-War over the slobbery, half-frozen raccoon corpse. I, the reigning champion of dignity, immediately threw the match so the little pork chop could taste glory. His acceptance speech? Silently dragging the dripping, icy carcass over and installing it on my head like I’m the official pedestal for the Nobel Prize of Soggy Toys. I lay there in full raccoon-crown regalia, one eye visible, silently judging my past life choices. Then he spotted a drift approximately the size of Mount Everest’s ego, clambered up like a furry parkour legend on four stubby espresso shots, planted his flag at the summit, and unleashed the most unhinged victory monologue in canine history: “I DID IT BIG SIS!!! I’M THE KING OF THE WORLD!!!” “LOOK AT MEEEEEE!!!” “BIG SIS DID YOU SEEEE???” “THIS IS MY MOUNTAIN NOW!!!” “NOBODY CAN STOP MEEEE!!!” “EXCEPT MAYBE YOU BUT PLEASE DON’T!!!”…immediately followed by the chase opera of the century: “CHESNYYYYY!!! WAITTTT!!!” “DON’T LEAVE MEEEEEE!!!” “YOUR BRAVE LITTLE PORK CHOP IS COMINGGGG!!!” “I’M FLYINGGGG!!!” “ALMOST!!! ALMOST THERE!!!” “WAIT WAIT WAIT WAITTTTT!!!” “GOTCHAAAAAAA!!!” “AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN!!!” He did this loop approximately 47 times. My ears are still ringing. Naturally I slowed to the speed of a very dramatic sloth. Let him tackle me. Let him “win” every tug, every chase, every imaginary world domination attempt. Because big sisters are contractually obligated to turn one small, squeaky pork chop into the loudest, most delusional snow overlord in recorded history—one fake flop, one soggy raccoon hat, and zero remaining shreds of pride at a time. Video proof of this complete and utter absurdity attached. Watch it immediately. Lose all composure. Share it with every human you’ve ever met, plus a few you haven’t. Let’s make my baby brother viral so he spends the next decade convinced he’s an invincible, mountain-conquering, raccoon-defeating pork chop superhero.🥩 Tag someone who needs their brain melted by pure puppy nonsense right now.🐶🐾 #BigSisterChesnyy #KenjiTheDelusionalPorkChop #SendHelpAndTreats

Stephen A. Smith says the quiet part out loud about the Tiger Woods DUI saga: “MOST of US would be in jail — He’s gotten away with a lot, and they’re sick and tired of it.” SMITH: “But all I know is this.” “You had this problem in 2017 when they found you sleeping in your car on the side of the road.” “You had this problem in 2021 when you crashed into a tree and tumbled over and almost got yourself killed.” “You had this issue again last Friday.” “All three times…you’re inebriated and you’re behind the wheel of a car.” “Now, I think it’s safe to say, you’re Tiger Woods, you can afford car service. I think it’s safe to assume the man can afford car service.” “What the hell are you doing getting behind the wheel of a car?” “Most of us would be in jail.” “Remember second incident in 2021. They didn’t even… they didn’t charge him. They didn’t make him take an alcohol, you know, breathalyzer test. They didn’t test his blood…any of that stuff. He was hospitalized. They left alone.” “So he’s gotten a lot of people’s eyes in America. He’s gotten away with a lot and they’re sick and tired of it.”

I posted this yesterday: wherever a tiger goes in any kind of forest, that becomes its territory whether it is the core of a tiger reserve, the buffer, or even unclassified forest. Here is a painful figure. More than 115 tigers have already died in India in the last seven months. Some of these deaths happened inside tiger reserves. Most happened while tigers were moving from one area to another road accidents, train hits, or poisoning. With a rising population and the search for food and better habitat, these animals are moving from place to place. In nature this looks like normal behaviour, and it is. But if a tiger is only moving from one forest to another forest, why is security not locked down along those routes? If Type-4 level monitoring of tigers actually happened, no tiger would be killed so easily. What shows instead is carelessness, laziness and work-avoidance among forest staff. Every one of these deaths happened in the forest not in a village, not in a forest settlement. Is the figure of 115 even correct? I will tell you: it is not. The real number is higher. Many deaths have not even come to notice. In M-STrIPES monitoring itself, many cubs were never registered. When they go missing, they never enter the record. Have tigresses in India produced 150 cubs in the last seven months? The answer is no they have not. If we discuss only the death numbers, have we already reached the maximum possible tiger population? In plain words: have India’s existing forests already hit carrying capacity? New reserves are stuck in cold storage. Political actors block them with one laughable excuse after another. Officials are also told by their bosses to keep these proposals hanging. It is equally necessary to strengthen the forests where tigers already live, and the routes they use in transit better habitat, minimum unauthorised entry by villagers, and wild herbivores raised to the required capacity. One example: in a dry state like Rajasthan, if all breeding tigresses of Ramgarh and Mukundra produce cubs today, by the time that next generation grows up there will be a severe prey shortage under present conditions. Those cubs will then push on in search of better habitat. But Rajasthan does not even have strong corridors in its forests. I do not understand what scientific innovation is actually stopping tigers deaths, making it easy for tigers to register their presence in new areas, or helping them breed and increase numbers in the present situation. Until human pressure in these forests is controlled, this will not become easier. The Centre and the states need a serious review. Wake up in time. Otherwise, with the resources available today and without wildlife-corridor connectivity, the tiger population has already reached its maximum. #bigcatprotection #wildlifecorridors #WildlifeOfIndia #wildlifeignorance #tigerdeath

Jason Day was asked ahead of The Masters whether he has any empathy for what Tiger Woods is going through and he gave a brilliant answer that a lot of people can probably agree with: “So yeah, in regards to Tiger, it just shows the human element and the human side of someone that is struggling with some sort of an addiction. He's not immune to it just because he can hit a golf ball really well. He's had 25 to 30 something surgeries, and when you're going through that many procedures, it's painful coming out of those procedures. I've had procedures done and I typically try and stay away from all that stuff because I just know that -- painkillers, there can potentially be a downfall to it. “Granted, when I look at that, I look at it and go, he's just a human being like everyone else and we have struggles. It's unfortunate, the only thing that I don't understand is that it's a little bit selfish of him to drive and put other people in harm's way, as well. “But when you're the player that he was and how strong-willed he is, he thinks he can do almost anything, and that's probably why he's probably driving and a little bit under the influence. “He was my hero -- he's my hero. He was my hero growing up. The reason why I play golf is because of this tournament and Tiger. It's hard to see him go through what he's going through, and especially under the microscope that -- it must be hard to be who he is and have everything, everyone look on, kind of down on him. “Some people want him to fail. Some people obviously want him to succeed. It's really difficult for me to go through that and watch him, and I know that he's getting the help now, which is good. I'm just hoping he comes out on the other side and is better.” Well said. Jason Day The Masters

President Paul Kagame is a paper tiger—a weak man who speaks boldly before the subjugated citizens of Rwanda. In reality, however, his representatives walk around DC, cap in hand, begging for aid in his name. We have a message for President Kagame: We urge you to never threaten the United States or our allies. This firm will not stand for it. Come to DC. Sign the Peace Agreement, and then go away. We stand with all the pro-democracy Rwandans seeking freedom. If you are looking to hire a lobbying firm to advocate for true democracy in Rwanda, please email renee.hamilton@montagueyork.com

Mark McGwire says the final weekend of the 1998 home run race changed when Sammy Sosa hit number 66 and moved ahead of him 66–65, and says he went to a Tiger Woods/Kobe Bryant place mentally and hit 5 home runs in the next 3 days to finish with 70 “That Friday night, Sammy’s playing in Houston, and the whole stadium has the game on watching Sammy. All of a sudden I hear this, ‘Ohhh,’ and he went ahead. He hit 66 and I was at 65.” “I said to myself, ‘I can’t let this happen.’ I’m sitting there going, ‘Okay, I broke the record first, but if Sammy takes this over, he’s going to have the record.’” “In my mind, I dug as deep as I could dig. I was like Tiger Woods winning all his championships. I was like Kobe Bryant doing what he does.” “I ended up hitting five home runs in the next three days and ended up with 70. The mindset can get you places where you don’t know.” “It’s unfortunate that I guess people want to forget that. Listen, I apologize for what I did. It didn’t have to happen. I didn’t need it. But I’ll tell you what, that was a lot of fucking hard work that I fucking put in.”

Jesse Plemons sharing how he had to corner the Breaking Bad writers because they were terrified of him is such a wild reveal. It turns out the key to playing such a terrifying character was just pure confusion and writer avoidance. Jesse: I was cornering every writer and no one would say anything but they wouldn't look at me as if I were Todd. They were looking at me really scared and I had no idea why. Jesse: Right before we shot that scene I said, "Vince, you have to give me something. I have no idea what I'm doing or who this guy is." Jesse: He said, "You know when you're driving and a raccoon runs out in front of your car? And if you swerve to the right you run into a ditch, if you swerve to the left you hit an oncoming car. Well, what do you do?" It is incredible that he managed to nail that role with just that one analogy.

In 2017, marine biologist Nan Hauser was snorkeling and filming near a group of humpback whales in the waters of the Cook Islands when a massive humpback whale suddenly approached her. 💗✨ At first, Nan thought the whale was attacking her or simply trying to play. It nudged her with its head, tucked her beneath its pectoral fin, lifted her onto its back, and spun her around in the water for more than ten minutes. Terrified, Nan tried to swim away, but the whale would not let her leave. It wasn’t until she spotted a third tail nearby that she realized the truth: a huge tiger shark, estimated to be about 5 to 6 meters long, was swimming directly toward her in hunting mode. The humpback whale had been shielding her all along, using its enormous body to keep her away from the shark and guide her safely back to her boat. A year later, the very same whale returned to find Nan and swam with her again like an old friend.

This is, by far, one of the best uses of modern AI. If you don't use embeddings when querying your database, you are definitely leaving a lot on the table. In this video, I'll show you how to run semantic searches using OpenAI and PostgreSQL. It's all thanks to Pgai, an open-source PostgreSQL extension: Here's what will happen: 1. We'll create a simple table with news articles 2. We'll generate embeddings for those articles 3. We'll run queries on top of those embeddings For this video, I generated the embeddings using a simple query, but pgai Vectorizer would do the same automatically as new information makes it into the database. This is awesome! If you have a PostgreSQL database with data you are searching over, you should start experimenting with semantic searches immediately. For most use cases, a combination of full-text search + semantic search is the best approach. If you don't have a PostgreSQL database around, you can try free for 30 days using Timescale: Thanks to the TimescaleDB (by Tiger Data) team for partnering with me on this post!

Joe Rogan on why the grizzly beats the gorilla and the tiger, and it has nothing to do with size: The argument starts as a hot take and turns into a case. Rogan: "Grizzly would kill a gorilla, dude." First he splits the grizzly in two, because not all of them are the same animal. Rogan: "There's mountain grizzlies, and then there's coastal brown bears, which are the same species, but they have much more access to protein. They're just eating salmon all day. And moose. Those things are giant." Rogan: "They're huge. They run 40 miles an hour." Then he turns to the gorilla, and points at the one feature that should win the argument for it. Rogan: "Silverbacks have canines that are just for posturing." Rogan: "Every other thing that has canines as big as a gorilla kills things. They just eat vegetables." The weapons are real. The experience is not. Even its nearest relatives hunt, which makes the gap stranger. Rogan: "Chimps are very carnivorous. They eat a lot of meat. They eat a lot of monkeys." Rogan: "But really, what they want is monkeys. That's their favorite thing to eat." Rogan: "I had the director on. And he said, they didn't even show all the chimps eating monkeys." Someone puts a Siberian tiger in the ring instead. Rogan does not take that either, and the reason is the same reason. Rogan: "They're designed to fight. A cat is not necessarily designed to fight. They're designed to kill things." Rogan: "I don't think the big cat is used to fighting." Killing is an ambush. Fighting is a fight. Rogan: "Grizzlies fight each other all the time and they fight for like 20 minutes and they tear each other apart and they don't get hurt." Rogan: "Their skin is so flexible and so thick that they get just bit down on and they're shaking each other and then they just shake it off like nothing happened." Rogan: "Grizzlies are out there. They're like Tyson in their prime. It's every two weeks." He has watched it happen, hunting black bears over bait in Alberta. Rogan: "They'll decide like who gets the bait, or they'll decide that a female is hot and she's ready to have sex, and they'll fight over the female." Rogan: "I watched these two dudes just go at it, like 30 yards away." The gorilla is stronger. The tiger is deadlier. The grizzly has done this hundreds of times.

This video of Katie Ledecky swimming with a glass of chocolate milk balanced on her head is one of my favorite things on the internet. It captures something true for all masters: they look graceful because they don't make unnecessary movements. In that way, the elegance of good technique is deceptive. I've been taking swim lessons so I can start swimming laps, and my instructor keeps teasing me about all the extra movements in my stroke, but every time I try to be elegant, I swim super slowly. It's only taken a few hours in the water to appreciate how many years it must have taken Ledecky to reach a point where she can swim so gracefully. Same story on the golf course. I'll sometimes pull up old videos of Tiger Woods ripping effortless 300-yard drives. But whenever I try to hammer the ball like that, my body gets tight and my swing gets jittery. Every skill is like this.
