Problem is that good public schools are in demand. So you end in private not by choice but due to unavailability of spaces. Gate keeping also still a problem in these public schools

She is right in so many levels however, depending on where in the country you might find yourself it is damn hard to get into those good public schools. And in some provinces amaqabane have done nothing but run those food schools into the ground.

BS. Take your kids to private schools if you can afford or can get bursaries. The connections an lifelong brotherhoods you make is unmatched.

Inkinga you’re speaking from a point of KZN privilege. There aren’t very many good public schools in Gauteng . I wish I didn’t have to pay what we do Shem.

I'd like to think parents who are willing to spend that much on school fees, can still afford to put money aside for the future of their children...

There’s also barrier to entry in good public schools ,criteria must leave in the area ,must have a parent or siblings who are old boys girls etc 😂

I went to a private school, and I now have contacts from the top 5% income bracket that will stand me in good stead for life. Furthermore, if you consider that 85% of my matriculating class have emigrated, these contacts are now worldwide.

The challenge is this . There are so few Good public schools remaining, it becomes luck to have your child admitted there. Some schools ferociously fight DOE when forced to admit more and more kids .

I quietly agree but probably because I couldn't afford these schools anyway. But education decisions for them aren’t just about maximising returns, they’re exposure and the environment now, they place a lot of value in the networks

It's a complex matter this one

In Gauteng, that decision is not yours as a parent, it’s MEC Chiliane’s prerogative. You’d have a good public school 1.5km away and 3 others within 8km radius and the MEC decides to admit your kid to a school 25km away. Transport costs there works out to = a private skul 5km away

Its true that a private school doesn’t make you smarter. Generally genetics, effort, good parenting etc makes the difference. It’s not a waste of money for people who can afford a school that aligns to their standard of living.

i implore people to do actual research on the benefits of attending one of the most expensive schools in the country vs a good public school. financials aside, then report on that .

It's not easy getting into the good public schools in Gauteng, at this other 1, I was asked "Does your son know Afrikaans?" And that was for grade R

The only good public school in my area has a 3 year waiting list, we are told. Apparently this waiting period only applies to black people not whites. So, this white person is right, her kids will never be denied access to a good public school.

This would be a thing if it was easy to get into a good public school. It's not, people struggle to get their kids into even the mediocre public schools Getting your kid into Roedean takes money & registering her early enough, getting her into Parktown Girls takes an act of God.

Private schools are increasingly becoming about keeping black people away. So called model c schools were now having many black kids...white people wanted to isolate and made fees very expensive so that only a few blacks can afford to put their kids through to those schools

Why are we having medical aid if we cnt use public hospitals and clinics.. Just food for thoughts
