“Resistance is futile”👇 I once again urged the Safeguarding Minister to make sure Keighley and the Bradford District are specifically included in the national grooming gangs inquiry after years of resistance from local authorities - particularly in light of claims of past “cover-ups” 🚨 I’m extremely worried by the position now being adopted by Bradford Council and an MP in the Bradford District after previously opposing the need for an inquiry. They are now saying they would support an inquiry if officials running the process (who have yet to be appointed) deem it necessary. That is not the same as saying they will not be actively pushing for the inquiry to focus on Bradford behind the scenes and suggests that really, Bradford Council’s position hasn’t changed. The Minister responded that “resistance is futile” - which is promising - but it is worrying that there was no acknowledgement of the same kind of resistance we have faced from local leaders on this issue for years. 🧵1/11

Things are pretty fucked. Trump and the right wing pose an enormous threat to working people and marginalized communities. We desperately need a fighter in the U.S. Congress. That’s why I’m running as an independent antiwar revolutionary socialist. This is not a careerist campaign. Our undying loyalty is to the working class and to the Palestinian people. We’re fighting to end all military aid to the Israeli state and for a permanent arms embargo on Israel. We're also fighting for free healthcare for all funded by taxing the rich, for national rent control, for a national $25/hour minimum wage, and for a massive expansion of publicly owned affordable housing funded by taxing the billionaires and multi-millionaires.

But no kings also means tearing down an economy built for billionaires and instead building it up for working people—more money in our pockets, because no one in the richest country on earth should struggle to get by, and more time off to spend with our friends, family, kids, and loved ones. Equal pay for Black and Latina women, who are still making 58 cents on the dollar, because opportunity in this country should not depend on the color of your skin. And you know where it all starts—it starts with a good union job for every worker in this country, because we all know it’s better in a union.

It's not even close, because what we have built here in this district, this grassroots movement, is part of something bigger that is happening across the south and is happening across this country. Because we are tired of people outside of this state telling us that the south is backwards, that it's hopeless and it's destined to be ruled by the same powerful people again and again. The south is not silent because the south has something to say. And Tennessee, we are leading the way. We have inspired an entire country. They are with us tonight and they are so proud. we’re able to do. And we may not have won tonight, but we changed the story of what's possible here. And we're not done, not by a long shot.
