This might be the most accidentally well placed camera I've ever seen. It was in the perfect position to capture this horrific accident in Mississippi. Again, don't stop on the interstate. While it is the responsibility of drivers to notice a hazard, you are making the mistake of trusting... show more

I've re-watched the video several times. I don't think he/she was stopping for a hazard. It looks like they hit something and/or lost the right front tire and were trying to get safely off the highway. Notice the front of the truck bouncing?

why do you keep saying "don't stop on the interstate" assuming these people had any choice in the matter

Mechanical failures happen. It can happen suddenly and a driver might not have time to get off of the road, or there may not be a shoulder to get off to. The onus is on drivers to be ready to avoid an accident should that happen to another vehicle.

Retards do 80+ down the interstate while all of one car length behind the vehicle in front of them then wonder how massive pileups happen.

100% stopping drivers fault. If they lived, never let them legally drive again. You don't stop and you barely slow down on the interstate, especially so quickly.

In the UK we have a law. If you rear ended someone, it's YOUR FAULT. Our police would say that people should drive within their safe stopping distance.

You're leaving out the fact that the dude began slowing down before getting on the shoulder

Looks like the truck was breaking down and heading to the shoulder. Did you actually watch the video?

The front right of the vehicle is clearly damaged, likely tire or suspension. The driver had no choice but to try to slow down and pull over. The idiot that hit him from behind was not paying attention and should be in jail.

Bad driver. Pull off the road faster!

Totally the car's fault. You must stop for any hazard in front of you. You must maintain following distance sufficient to stop if the guy in front of you slams on their brakes. It's not a race track.

A lot of people in the comments need to go back to driving school. People behind the truck (which was presumably having a mechanical issue) are responsible for keeping a safe distance, PAYING ATTENTION TO THE ROAD, and finding a safe escape route
So much hate filled in these comments it's ridiculous. Yes you are responsible for rear ending someone even on the interstate. Also the guy obviously has a dead engine and no power steering. and this appears to be an offramp or interchange as well

The person who rear-ended him is the one at fault. You always need to allow sufficient following distance to be able to stop in time. Most accidents are due to people not doing that.

Could've been something mechanically wrong here that made stopping imperative whether in a good place or not - we don't know. It's beside the point now.

Only idiots stop on roads or highways

looks like something was up and it was trying to get off the road. pay attention to what is going on ahead and behind you and you can avoid most of this stupid sh*t.

The car is 1000% at fault because anyone with half a brain would be able to tell the vehicle in front of the. Getting closer. Didn't even put half an ounce of effort to slow down

It was clearly the cars fault. The truck was attempting to pull off the road when the other person decided to not pay attention to what was happening directly in front of them.

Shit so stupid why tf are you breaking on the high way

The car in the rear is totally at fault. 100%.

And they say Tesla FSD is dangerous 😂

The 2nd car is at fault.

“Don’t stop on the interstate” as if peopke have the choice all the time. You’re right cars never breakdown. Medical emergencies never happen. Just never stop on the interstate.

Whatever the reason, this amounts to brake checking on a highway. This incident illustrates how incredibly dangerous that is.

These comments are so stupid. Mechanical failures happen!!

No one pays attention anymore! But dude should of not stopped but pull off the roadway!

How do we know something didn't happen with the pickup before it appears on this camera.

Why not pull over to the side? 100% trucks fault

is it possible the car stalled out and lost power to the steering ?

If there is an object you may have to stop. Rear end collision is alway the car in backs fault. I hope they are in prison foever.

That car had lost power. The driver couldn't move over any faster. What sort of dickhead would blame them for breaking down ?

I’ll bet my left testicle the sedan driver was on his/her phone

Hardly any traffic no reason to be driving so close that you can't react in time .

Not the stopping drivers fault. It looks like they were trying to make their way to the shoulder due to a mechanical issue.
