Terrible call. Seen a lot worse from base-runners that was clearly intentional, or questionable. This was very unusual, in my opinion, even though the threshold isn't about intent.

The umpires need to be checked for betting on this game.

It was hard to watch and I don't even have a dog in the fight.

Rule 7.08(b) Comment: A runner who is adjudged to have hindered a fielder who is attempting to make a play on a batted ball is out whether it was intentional or not. It sucks to end the game this way, but it’s the runners responsibility to get out of way. Just bad luck.
