Instead of soaking safely into the ground or flowing through drainage systems, water rushes over loose soil, carrying sand and debris with it. This runoff clogs gutters and culverts, increases surface flooding, and weakens the foundation of nearby paved roads. Over time, the constant flow of water erodes the base beneath asphalt, causing cracks, potholes, and eventually full road failure.
