A stunning “sun candle” lit up the sky in British Columbia 🌅 This striking effect happens when sunlight shines through a narrow gap in clouds, creating a glowing vertical beam that looks like a flame.

This only happens once a year. Each year on April 16 the setting sun lines up through a window to illuminate the crucifix above the altar of Mission Espiritu Santo at Goliad State Park. More: 📽️ Goliad SP + Historic Site 🎵 Greg Bentz and Company

Once in a millennium moment, Earth and the Moon crossing infornt of the Sun. Just hours before Huygens landed on Titan on Jan 14, 2005, there was a rare transit of Earth and the Moon across the Sun as seen from Saturn. It’s an event that happens only about once every 15 years, and a dead-center transit like that only twice per millennium.

The cottonwoods in NE Illinois are having a “mast seeding event” this year. This happens when conditions are particularly hot and dry at the moment when buds are differentiating between becoming leaves or seeds. And Chicago just had one of the driest Mays on record. #ilwx

Thousands of Dutch locals surround the full perimeter of the Airborne Cemetery, commemorating the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden. The Dutch have been immense all week. They have turned up in droves at every event. They do this every year. Incredible people. 🇳🇱🇬🇧

This is an unnamed storm that we had very little warning about, maybe a day or two at best. Carolina Beach saw 18 inches of rain fall in 12 hours, a once-in-1,000-year rainfall event. This is devastating.
