THIS OPEN-SOURCE AGENT JUST MADE HERMES LOOK SLOW AND EXPENSIVE. SAME TASK, 4X FASTER, A THIRD OF A CENT One prompt in both: research the 10 most popular AI coding agents, compare pricing, features, open-source status and GitHub popularity in a table, include sources. • Speed > OpenHuman (TinyHumans...

@slash1sol love seeing open-source level up. key thing: make sure the data sources are reliable and up-to-date.

which agent did you compare? curious if the speedup holds on longer tasks or just that specific research prompt

Compared OpenHuman to Hermes. Speedup was clear on this research task - testing longer ones now.

The speed difference is wild, and we actually went deeper on how training inside real coding harnesses can impact performance:

a live context meter broken down by source is rare

Open source is moving fast. 4x faster at a fraction of the cost is wild

love the live cost meter. but i noticed hermes was checking vendor pricing pages directly while openhuman used comparison blogs, would be cool to see an accuracy check next to the speed one

25 seconds is seriously fast

the live cost meter matters more than the 4x an agent that shows $0.0036 while it runs is one you can actually leave on overnight

The live cost meter is the genuinely useful part. Benchmarks that compare agents on one prompt tend to hide the rerun tax: 8 tool calls looks cheap until a task needs 40, and the numbers stop being comparable across models.

A third of a cent per run is great if the table and sources hold up. That's the part I'd check before trusting the 4x.

4x faster on a research table is easy mode. curious if anyone has tried it on a messy existing codebase yet

This is the kind of agent I want: fast, cheap, open source, and transparent. No guessing where the money goes.

if it really delivers that much speed at such a low cost, it's gonna shake things up

a third of a cent is kinda absurd. want to see it on a messier task though

Hermes just made its in-app browser a whole lot more useful. You can now keep multiple browser tabs open inside Hermes Desktop instead of every new page replacing the one you were already using. And that matters more than it sounds. Because this is not just about “having tabs.” It means Hermes can work across multiple pages without forcing you to keep losing your place every time you open the next thing. Research one source, keep it open, open another tab, compare them side by side, and keep moving. Check a few products before buying something. Look at multiple hotel or travel options at once. Keep a YouTube tutorial open in one tab while Hermes looks through docs or another page in the next. And because this lives inside Hermes Desktop, you are not limited to one basic browser view either. You can keep multiple tabs open. You can view two pages side by side. You can stack them top and bottom. You can even run a four-panel view when you want several pages open at once. So the browser inside Hermes is starting to feel a lot more like a real workspace instead of one page you keep replacing. There is also some nice polish that comes with it. Browser tabs now label themselves based on the page, and the address bar behaves more cleanly while pages are loading. And remember, this is the same in-app browser Hermes can already read, click through, type in, scroll, and annotate. So this is not just a prettier browser. It is a more capable workspace for the browser Hermes is actually using. If Hermes is going to do more of your work on the web, this is exactly the kind of browser upgrade it needed.

HERMES AGENT IS NOW IN THE CLOUD. NO VPS. NO TERMINAL. NO SETUP. PICK A MODEL. PICK A SERVER SIZE. AGENT IS LIVE IN 60 SECONDS. Nous Portal just launched hosted Hermes Agent. two clicks. one minute. done. Nous Research WHAT THIS MEANS: before today: install Hermes on a VPS or your laptop. configure providers. set up gateway. manage updates. run hermes setup. edit config.yaml. great for power users. friction for everyone else. now: go to pick a model. pick a server size. your agent is live and reachable in 60 seconds. no terminal. no SSH. no Docker. same Hermes. same features. same tools. someone else handles the infrastructure. FOR TEAMS: this is where it gets interesting. spin up agents for everyone at your org. each team member gets their own Hermes instance. granular access controls per user. unified billing through Nous Portal. your team gets Hermes on day one. no DevOps needed. no VPS per person. one admin dashboard. one bill. WHAT'S INCLUDED: → 300+ models via Nous Portal (Claude, GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, MiniMax, and more) → Tool Gateway (web search, image generation, TTS, browser automation) → all messaging platforms (Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal) → full feature set (profiles, cron, kanban, skills, memory, sub-agents, MoA, /goal, /learn, /journey) → automatic updates ONE PORTAL. FOUR TIERS: Free: $0/month. pay-as-you-go credits from $10. Plus: $20/month. $22 in monthly usage credit. Super: $100/month. $110 in monthly credit. SELF-HOSTED IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE: Hermes is MIT licensed. open source. free forever. you can still run it on your laptop, VPS, or GPU cluster. nothing changes for self-hosted users. the cloud version is for people who want the agent running without managing the machine. pick your path: → self-hosted: full control. you manage everything. → cloud: zero ops. Nous manages infrastructure. → hybrid: self-host your main agent, cloud for team members. HOW TO START: cloud: self-hosted: hermes setup --portal both connect to the same Nous Portal. same models. same tools. same billing. learn how to replace your entire team with 8 hermes agents 👇

I built an operating system where the AI agent isn’t another app. It’s part of the OS. Today, Herald OS is open source and you can install it yourself 🚀 It’s built around Hermes Agent by Nous Research. Talk or type to Hermes and it can work across your entire computer: • Open and use apps • Find, organize and work with your files • Remember what matters • Run routines and automations • Build software while you watch • Understand what’s happening on your screen • Work across the machine instead of being trapped inside a chat window And when something is about to make a change, you approve it first. 🎙️ Talk to your computer Say “Hey Hermes” and just talk. Native OS commands don’t need to burn model tokens. When you actually ask the agent to think, build or perform a task, that’s when Hermes gets involved. ⚡ Everyday superpowers • Select any part of your screen and ask Hermes about it • Pick a colour from anywhere • Read a QR code from your screen • Copy text from anywhere on screen • Emoji in any app you type in • When an app crashes, Hermes explains what happened in plain English • One-click installs for Claude Code, Codex, local models and more 🐧 And yes, Herald OS Linux is an actual operating system • Fedora underneath, Herald on top • OS and Herald update together as one system • Roll back an update if something goes wrong • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, sound, display and battery controls • Screen recording • Night light • Fingerprint and security-key sign-in • Firewall closed by default 🎨 Make the entire OS yours Themes don’t just change a wallpaper. They can restyle the whole system, including the terminal. Drop in any photo and build a theme from it. Or describe what you want and let Hermes design one. You can also: • Ask Hermes to create a widget, then choose exactly what that widget is allowed to access • Drag the menu bar into the layout you want • Create your own menu entries • Put your own logo in About 💻 Run it almost anywhere • Native Mac app for Apple Silicon • PC installer from a USB stick • Arch Linux package • Omarchy integration where Herald follows your theme and adds itself to the menu and keybindings • Or boot the full Herald OS inside a VM on your Mac with one command It’s free, open source and MIT licensed. It’s also still alpha, so expect rough edges. This is an independent project and is not affiliated with Nous Research. I’ve been building toward this idea for a while: Instead of opening an AI app on your computer, what if your computer itself understood what you wanted? Now you can try it ⭐
