The federal government must hold colleges accountable in order to combat campus antisemitism. Students and professors are inciting hate and violence against Jews. A student held up a sign that read: Keep the world clean of Jews. The notion of “cleansing” the world of Jews is the kind of genocidal antisemitism that one would expect from Nazi Germany, not from NYC.

Luc Jasmin, a member of the Washington’s Human Rights Commission has resigned after an antisemtic outburst in which he described Jews "crying" about antisemitism. The worst part? The discussion was part of other commission members' attempts to pass a "definition" of antisemitism that doesn't define antisemitism at all. It instead asserts "the equation of antisemitism with anti-Zionism...has been instrumentalized as a pretense for attacks on the First Amendment rights of free speech." A definition that focuses more on telling Jews that our attempts to stay alive are harming other people's free speech isn't really about protecting Jews. And the reaction even to that was to say Jews are overreacting.

An Instagram account of Tech for Palestine is sharing blatant antisemitism to their 1M followers. In a video that implies Palestinians who sold land to Jews are somehow just as cognitively incapable of making a decision as a woman with advanced dementia, this massive account suggests that Jews are trying to colonize New York. It alleges that a Hasidic Jew scammed the interviewee's friend's mother. So, all the Jews are trying to steal homes from literally everyone. This is shameful to the point that the platform should step in. But we know they won’t.

A woman “investigated” to prove a Mediterranean restaurant is actually Israeli. Her proof was a single Hebrew word on the menu. This is a perfect example of the transition from Chanukah antisemitism to Purim antisemitism. Chanukah antisemitism calls for Jews to erase key aspects of our identity, promising acceptance in return for erasure. Think of the false statements a few years back about how “Israeli food doesn’t exist.” They lied saying Jewish food developed over centuries living in the Middle East wasn’t ours. Then, when Jews went along and started calling it Mediterranean, that still wasn’t enough to stop the targeting and hate. And that point, it becomes Purim antisemitism. A call for the eradication of Jews, without an escape clause for those who assimilate. A threat that no matter how well we hide, they will find the clues that label us as Jewish. Also, this woman really needs to get a life.
