The federal workforce is essential, but let’s be clear: For decades, bureaucrats operated with zero accountability, burning taxpayer cash on redundant programs and bloated contracts. The DOGE has already clawed back $165B by axing waste—like HHS’s $37B in canceled grants and GSA’s $32B in dead-end contracts. Real public service means prioritizing veterans’ care, border security, and slashing the red tape that strangles efficiency. Cutting fat isn’t an attack—it’s a demand for competence.

Our federal workers have been demonized since Trump took office and they are now being forced to work without pay, furloughed or even fired. That’s why Sam and I stopped by yesterday to thank some of our local federal employees for their service and delivered donuts and coffee to start their day. But they deserve much more than pastries. They deserve a functioning government where they can continue to do their critical work to support us and keep us safe. Thank you for continuing to serve our country. We need you more than ever.

Every child in our province deserves a life of dignity and that starts with a great public education. I’m proud to stand with our dedicated Educational Support Workers in Fort McMurray. This week I had the privilege to walk the picket lines with them and listen to their stories. These education workers do so much for our children, often dealing with some of our most complex students in our classrooms. The UCP is failing our educators, parents, and children by not paying these workers a fair wage. They deserve better. Alberta deserves better.

I’m forcing a vote in the Senate to reverse this unfair rule that will harm workers and their families, businesses, and our economy.

We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our dear friend and colleague, Rep. Doug LaMalfa. Doug was a devoted public servant who deeply loved the people of Northern California and never stopped working for them. He believed in this country, in our work, and in the responsibility we have to serve every constituent with care and humility. He was one of the kindest men to ever serve in this institution, and he will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with his wife Jill, their four children, and all who loved him.
