In Carlito’s Way, when Benny Blanco confronts Carlito, De Palma doesn’t cut back and forth like most directors would in a normal dialogue scene. Instead, he keeps the camera at a distance and pans between the two actors, capturing the rising tension between them. And as the scene becomes more chaotic, so does the camera's movements, amplifying the intensity of their performances until the scene finally erupts. This is a perfect example of the type of stylish visual storytelling Brian De Palma is known for, something he learned from studying masters like Billy Wilder -as he’s stated before… “Great directors like William Wilder, when he's staging a scene - just gets the camera in one position and lets the actors act through the emotion of the scene. And you can see the transference of feelings between them... This idea of cutting to close-ups back and forth, I think, shatters the sort of emotion going between the actors - the whole idea of catching lightning in the bottle. Something happens uniquely between the actors as they're playing a scene with each other, and it changes from take to take to take to take.”

This scene is so dear to me, not only does Cloud admit to Aerith, the first person of all (not even mom) that he has feelings for Tifa, so after Dear Destiny, Aerith phrase "if I were in your shoes, I would be here all the time" ACTUALLY has weight. She would.

It's funny when people claim to love Aerith (or even cosplay as her), but their tone changes the moment she starts showing what she truly wants and not acting the way they want her to act. Anyone referring to this whole sequence as "wrong" or "weird" is a clear example of poor media literacy. The game couldn't have made it clearer right before this sequence played out with Zack and Marlene's conversation. In reality, Marlene said it twice. Is it really this difficult to understand this story?

No one. And I mean no one, who loved FF7 in 1997 was not tearing themselves to shreds trying to save Aerith(or find ways to revive her). I think Rebirth perfectly embodied those feelings too. The mass emotion evoked by a fanbase 27 years prior. I'm happy that Hamaguchi-san was with us. He went through that phase. And in turn the Remake Trilogy offered a new hope to fans to make it right. Thank you to the devs that gave us the chance to finally save her. It will forever be as legendary as the moment we lost her and has breathed a new sense of hope into the fanbase. #aerith #finalfantasyvii #ff7rebirth
