This dialogue stuck with me from the first time I saw this movie (Mississippi Masala) in the 90s. And when you experience this first hand as a Black man dating an Indian woman whose family doesn’t doesn’t accept you, it really hits.

Some are 10 shades past Denzel's skin complexion, and they swear to gawd they are white.

It's crazy how certain themes and issues never seem to change.

One of my favorite movies 🥰 Mississippi Masala was such an interesting, original, unique, and educational love story.

Mira Nair was in her bag, Mississippi Masala is one of my favorite films. From the the romance of Mina & Demetrius, to Indians being expelled from Uganda, starting over in the Deep South but still carrying their caste/prejudices with them, it’s a slice of American history. 💯

Absolutely true. Indian Americans have always thought themselves to be superior to their Black brethren, always thinking they are equal to European Americans They forgot the reason why they got to immigrate to US in the first place is because of MLK & his civil rights protest
