A hard rescue today as I got a message from a kind local lady who needed help with an old blind dog. The poor boy was most likely dumped in the area because the “end was close for him”. He was confused on the beach and stuck. He wouldn’t have lasted much longer were it not for their bravery. His vet results were about as bad as it gets. His eyes might be glaucoma as he can’t see a thing and his kidneys and liver are bad as well as severe anemia. His anemia is so bad we can’t even put him on a drip. While I was driving him around I just had to keep talking to him as his head would keep dropping. His body is so weak. He is also very hard to handle as he lashes out with bites as he can’t see what is going on around him. He is terrified. The ladies called him Rocky as they are hoping he will make a comeback. It won’t be easy at all but he did start eating, drinking and resting well this evening. We will all have to keep everything crossed for this lovely boy. Whatever happens he isn’t on his own and he has the best medical care now. Rocky even let me pet his head tonight. I think he understands he is safe.

One thing that Baekhyun is also good at is holding back his tears, but last night, as much as he wanted to hold it back, tears fell down and he started crying. This is where understanding nuance becomes important. Mihawk’s relationship with the government is made very clear. He gains the benefits of being a warlord, and still does exactly what he wants. They did not even expect him to show up to the warlord meeting to begin with, and he makes it clear the only reason he did was because of his own personal interest. This relationship between Mihawks and the government is shown even better in the Live Action. Where Mihawk is kicking his feet up on a table while talking to his supposed “higher up” and the HERO of the Marines. Telling him he didn’t complete his mission. And the reason why? Because he didn’t want to. This entire scene he is literally talking down to Garp in a disrespectful tone. And this is one of the faces of the WG organization itself. Garp even tries to use the government excuse by telling Mihawk he works for them. And Mihawks response perfectly encapsulates his position as a Warlord “I would still do precisely as I want. No more and no less.” He does not have this position out of necessity, he uses it for his own quality of life. He was using the WG for his own benefit and they sat by and let him do it for years.

You can go back to the very first single he released after he became the Jay-Z we all know today. “In My Lifetime”, 1994. He told everyone EXACTLY who he was and what he’s about. And all he has done in the 31 years since, is accomplish EXACTLY EVERYTHING he said he would do. All he raps about is his REAL life. His music is based on honesty. Every step of the way he’s walking you through where he’s at in life at that current moment. His dreams, triumphs, failures (hardly any), accomplishments, flaws, maturation, etc. as a fan you feel like you’re right there with him. Some love it, some hate it. But it’s the TRUTH. And THAT’s what his fans connect to the most. His story is incredibly inspiring and motivational. Sucks for you if you can’t identify with that man.

i wanna talk about the scene immediately after tuna melts for a sec because there’s so much symbolism in this scene and it’s honestly really interesting to me because at first glance it could quite easily be one that’s overlooked. sure, it obviously shows shane is tightly wound after running away from ilya in tuna-melt-gate but there’s deeper layers to it as well. the most obvious (imo) is shane ordering a ginger ale and being unable to get one, when in the scene immediately prior we’ve just witnessed him be given one without even asking at ilya’s house. it really plays into the whole ginger ale as a metaphor for shane’s “true self” and that even when he tries to let parts of the real him slip through he meets obstacles to prevent that happening, whereas with ilya he’s allowed to be himself and totally at ease. there’s also the moment where the waiter asks if anyone will be joining them and removes the extra place setting. it highlights the space in shane’s life thats left empty because he isn’t able to publicly fill it. he can’t have anyone sat at that place setting because he can’t be seen in public with the person he loves, so it stays empty. its also a sort of parallel for the final episode, when that extra space at the hollander’s dining table is filled by ilya. this is just a tiny thing and probs me thinking too much into it but i love the choice to have shane studying the menu the whole time. he’s holding it in a way that it sort of shields him from his parents and puts a barrier between them, so it’s kind of like a physical “wall” that he has up to protect himself. then when his parents want to go to the tennis, shane’s immediate instinct is to lie so they can get in, which yuna (correctly) points out isn’t who he is. it really represents to me how comfortable shane’s become in living the “lie” of his life and hiding his true self - and yuna’s words are a harsh reminder to him that he’s really not as okay with that as he’s been telling himself he is. it sort of snaps him out of it for a moment and reminds him that there is a real discomfort for him in lying to the people he cares about. finally the little nod at the end to shane’s parents suspecting that maybe he might be gay - his dad says “swedish princess” really incredulously as though he knows that was never going to tempt shane. this was probably more meant to be referencing how fame and events that are all about appearances aren’t shane’s scene at all but it definitely could be read as them suspecting a little bit considering they say in episode 6 that they had done for a while.

This guy’s story is almost identical to mine. He started as a crossdresser and it escalated into full blown transition late in life. And rather than transition improving his mental health, it’s made him an emotional neurotic mess who’s more dysphoric than ever and constantly self-conscious about whether he passes as a woman. Moreover, this lifestyle choice destroyed his relationship with his family because he’s predicated his happiness on convincing his family that he is something he’s not.
